--NAUGATUCK NEWS (t'umi.) Saturday, June 12,1971 Local Students Earn Degrees From Central Eleven Naugaluek residents were among 1,865 receiving degrees recently at the 121st Commencement of Central Connecticut State College, New Britain. Of this number, 1,310 received either the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degrees, the Master of Science or Master of Arts, two the sixth-Year Prol'es- sional Certificate and 40 Uie i Associate in Science degree. Highlighting the ceremonies was an address by Dr. F. Don James, president of Central, necticut's oldest public institu- tion of higher education, and remarks by Mrs.

Jane G. Crabtree, highest ranking graduate. The class, the largest in the 122- year history of the college, was welcomed by Dr. Louis Rabineau, associate director of the Commission for Higher education. Naugatuck residents receiving the Bachelor of Science degree and their major area of study were: Thomas J.

Calo -130 Field marketing; Mark B. Diver, 29 Johnson elementary education; James H. Kennedy, 94 Fairview marketing; and Rita M. Klimasewski, 164 Millville in elementary education. Also, James A.

McCann of 86General Patton marketing; Gregory M. Oloskey, 197 High industrial arts; and Elizabeth A. Salenik, of 85 Scott in history. Receiving the Bachelor of Arts degree were: Rosalind D. Feest of Albion in history; and Christine J.

Fredericks of 34 Field in geography. Cathy A. Burns of 151 May received the Associate degree in accounting, and Beatrice R. Garbarino of 235 Park the Master of Science in elementary education. A Bachelor of Science degree was received by Carole E.

Wasko of 19 Stoddard Beacon Falls, in English. Students from Middlebury to receive degrees were: Bachelor of Science, Kathy A. Horbachuk of Three Mile Hill in accounting; and Master of Science was received by Pauline D. Aiken of P.O. Box 312 in English; and Ann L.

Paterson of Middlebury in elementary education. Residents of 'to receive degrees of Bachelor of Science were: Pamela J. Johnson of 17 Great Hill in elementary education; Susan E. Johnson of 17 Great Hill in English; Raymond M. Nccio of 140 Mountain in accounting and Patricia A.

Niemi of 117 North Main in distributive education. MISS BRENDA M. SCALLY graduated from Regis College in Weston, recently, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature with a minor in Art. Brcnda is the I daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

John F. Scally of 485 North Spring Street. WayneBuckmillerA warded Degree From Creighton WAYNE P. BUCKMILLER Mary Carroll Earns Degree In Education Mary Jane Carroll, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

James Carroll of 10 Briarwood Road, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education at the 85th annual commencement exercises at Springfield, Mass. College recently. Miss Carroll, a 1967 graduate of Naugatuck High School, has been a class officer for four years, a member of the Freshman Orientation Week Committee, Chairman of Fall Weekend, 1970, and was recently elected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. DiBeneditto, son of Petof DiBeneditto of Manners was among 900graduates of Tufts University at its 115th annual commencement June 6. Wayne P. Buckmiller received a bachelor of arts degree from Creighton University at commencement exercises recently. Wayne is the son of Mrs. Eileen fnrn G.

Buckmiller of 82 Fairview Ave. While attending Creighton, Wayne majored in English and was also a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He also has a year apprenticeship from the Buckmiller Funeral Home in which he will become partners with his brother, Terry Buckmiller. Mr. Buckmiller is a 1966 graduate of Naugatuck High School and married to the former Roseann Bailly.

Ann Colangelo Receives Degree In Mathematics Smith Local Teacher Earns Masters NEIL V. TRIANO, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patsy Triano of 569 South Main received an Architecture Degree recently from the Rhode Island School of Design. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Architecture.

John Pryzbylek Receives Degree John M. P-yzbylek of 33 Fairfield Beacon Falls, was among 200 students who earned a degree at the 78th annual commencement exercises held at St. Anselm's College recently. NICHOL SMITH Miss Nichol Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Edward J. Smith of 311 Bethany Road, Beacon Falls, was among the members of the 1971 graduating class of Marymount College of Virginia. Enrolled in the elementary education curriculum, Miss Smith received her Associate in Arts degree from the Most Reverend John J. Russell, D.D., Bishop of Richard, who presided at the commencement exercises. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Mother Gerard Phelan Gold Medal, Marymount's highest public honor, to Representative LenorK.Sullivan, Congresswomen from Missouri's Third Congressional District.

EDWIN PEREIRA Edwin Pereira, a teacher at Hillside Junior High School, recently graduated from Fairfield University with a Master of Arts Degree in Administration. He has been selected to attend the University of Coimbra in Portugal this summer through a fellowship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study 'in Portuguese the following courses: Portuguese language, literature, philology, history, art, archaeology, geography and Portuguese ethnography. The teaching of Portuguese culture will be supplemented by social gatherings, in excursions of study to places of historical, artistic or geographical importance. Miss Ann Marie Colangelo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Emilo W. Colangelo of 45 High Street, graduated with general honors from Saint Joseph College in West Hartford recently. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. Miss Colangelo was also recently elected to the Kappa Gamma Pi. She has been an active member in resident affairs and has been an officers of the Math Club.

Ann is a 1967 graduate of Naugatuck High School. Miss Colangelo will be teaching in the Amity Regional School System in the fall. Susan Pohl Graduate Of Muhlenberg Susan J. Pohl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Edward J. Pocoski, 70 Golden Hill received a degree JOSEPH DIBENEDITTO DiBeneditto, an electrical engineering major, received a Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude. He was. a member of Eta Kappa Nu Association, I i of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the Air Force KOTC. He plans to study for a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree and then become a pilot for the U.S.

Air Force. Del fin Pereira Earns Bachelor Degree Delfin Pereira was among the Mr. Pereira is the son of Mr. graduates of the 48th com- and Mrs. Casimiro of 52 Briar- mencement of the University of wood Road.

While attending the University, he was an active member of the varsity soccer team for four years and a captain for two years. Delfin worked as an Intern to Dean of Students and was a member of the Board of Athletic Control. In 1968 Delfin received honors as an outstanding Athlete of American College and was on the All-New England Soccer Team for 1969 and 1970 and also played on the Eastern College All-Star team. Mr. Pereira will attend Columbia University and work on his masters in Social Work.

JOHN PRYZBYLEK New York Mayor John V. Lindsay delivered the commencement address and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. Mr. Pryzbylik received a degree in Chemistry. He is secretary and treasurer of the St.

Anselm's Chemical Society and a member of the Connecticut Club. He has participated in intramural basketball, football and Softball. John plans to do his graduate work at Holy Cross College Worcester, Mass. Sounds and Murmers in the Elderly." Dr. Pocoski graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Connecticut in 1967.

He graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1963. He will intern in Internal Medicine at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. degree recently at commencement ceremonies marking the end of Muhlenberg College's 123rd academic year. While at Muhlenberg, Miss Pohl was a member of the Women's Council. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.

Her future plans include Lehigh University. She graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1967. Arthur M. Schlesinger, two-time Pulitzer prize winning author, educator and advisor to the late President Kennedy, delivered the commencement address. Charles Kirk Graduate Of Mount Herman Charles C.

Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred H. Kirk of 59 Goodyear was among the 203 candidates for graduation from Mount Hermon School at the 85th commencement exercises recently. ANN t'OLANGELO John Empoliti Recipient Of Ph.D.

Degree John James Empoliti, of 312 Maple Alma, Michigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Empoliti of Ifi2 Spencer was a can- i a for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Rutgers State University of New Jersey during the 205th anniversary commencement of Rutgers recently. Mr.

Empoliti is married with four children. He is employed at Alma College, Alma, Michigan. Mr. Empoliti's past honors were: Magna Cum Laude from Fairfield University in 1964, NSF Summer Fellowship in 1965 and NSF Traineeship from 1966 to 1970. Mr.

Empoliti graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1960. Local Students Receive Degrees From Mattatuck a a Community College granted Associate Degrees to local students from Naugatuck at its third annual commencement exercises held in the Kennedy High School recently. Charlotte Anderson of 93 Valley and Newton of 55 Porter received high honors for their two years at the school. Other local graduates were: Janet Caulfield, Anthony Triano and William receiving Associate Degrees in Arts. Also, Diana Capardino, John Foley, Joseph Foley, Nancy Forchielli, Noreo a i and Joseph Geruch, all receiving Associate Degrees in Science.

University Graduates Earn Degrees Local students attending the University of Connecticut received degrees at the 88th annual commencement recently, More than 10,000 faculty, relatives and friends of the graduates attended the colorful ceremonies. Students from Naugatuck who were presented Bachelor Degrees were: College of Liberal Arls and Sciences, MaryAnn V. Alticre of 81 Sheffield Lane, Union City, Marlene J. Feeley, 158 Ward Street; Kevin Kennedy, 94 Fairview Richard S. KoHtka, Woodcrest Drive; Christine Mangini, 192Park and Robert P.

Matusz of 180 Hillside Ave. Also, Rhea C. Mowrey of 86 Johnson Street; Sara Roller of 187 Lincoln Street and Gerald N. Salinardi of Webb Road. Students from the School of Business Administration are: Charles W.

Jazina of 80 Hickory Road; John W. Noyes of 16 Deering Lane; Frederick'J. Russell of 87 Phyllis Drive and Robert D. Waranowicz of 24 Salem Blvd. Bachelor Degrees in School of Education were received by Margaret M.

Carey of 12 Fuller Street and Ernestine A. Salva of 144 Highland Ave. A degree in Nursing was presented to Donna M. Stasonis of 569 Rubber Ave. Other local students to receive degrees were: Michael Pikula of 53 Summerfield Street, in Agriculture and Resources; Gregory F.

Ciehowski of 22 Culver Street, in Pharmacy; Helen Piotrowski Gelmini of 73 Rockwell in Physical Therapy; and John R. Andersen of 18 Bridge Street in Engineering. Students from Seymour to receive Bachelor Degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences were: Edward J. F. Manus, Lynda C.

Ponz, Natalie Silchenko, Judith L. Uhoch, Laura C. Wheeler, Mary K. Wozniak and James W. Zubrick.

Also from Middlebury were: Jeffrey F. Brown, degree in Business A i i a i Katherine Alexinski, in Education; Albert A. Benevento, in Engineering; and Pamela Johnston, in Home Economics. Students from Prospect to receive Bachelor Degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences were: Cristin Markham Birch, Michael E. Goewey, George H.

Kritzman, Barbara M. Watts and Thomas H. Feero, Jr. Also from Prospect were: Charles E. Marcil, in Business Administration; Susan B.

Berzinskas, in Education; Larry A. Chatfield, in Engineering; Ellen R. Varis, in Nursing; and Catherine M. Hylamd, in Physical Therapy. Benjamin Franklin has been called "the father of'the circulating- library." DELFIN PEREIRA New Haven recently, Bachelor of Science Social Administration.

Sue Hubbell, daughter of Mrs. Franklin Hubbell of 241 Cherry St. will graduate Saturday, June 26 from the Mcridcn-Wallingford Hospital School of Nursing. HERB JOHN COCKCROFT, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Douglas Cockcroft, of 103 Marjorle Street, Is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, at the 101st commencement recently. Mr. Cockcrofl Is a 1967 graduate of Naugatncfc High School. DAVID POCOSKI of Doctor of Medicine cum laude from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center at Syracuse recently. During his four years of medical education, Dr.

Poeoski received many scholarships, awards, and honors in recognition of outstanding achievement. He was selected for membership in the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. Its members are chosen by the faculty and student body to honor those students who have demonstrated high moral character and academic excellence in both the basic sciences and clinical medicine. Dr. Pocoski was recently chosen by faculty and alumni to be the recipient of the Honors Thesis Award.

This award is given for outstanding theses covering voluntary extracurricular research. Dr. Pocoski won this award for his phonocardio- graphic study entitled "Heart Local Students Graduate From Post College a a students were among the 148 students from Connecticut and neighboring states graduating from Post Junior College recently. It was Post's 81st commencement and its fifth held on the Country Club Road Campus. The guest speaker for the ceremonies was the Honorable John S.

Monagan of ihc fifth Congressional District. The Naugatuck graduates are: Norman J. Carlson, Paul Everett, John Farrar and Virginia E. Lambertsen. Also, Stephen G.

Morel, Leslie A. Owens, Anthony M. Rebelo and Delores Turley. Middlebury students were: Robert H. Albon, Elizabeth DelGaizo, Jean A.

Lucchina, Barbara Stroker and Walter X. Vitkauskas. I A PASSABET, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Passabct, received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Sunday, May at Stonehill College, Northeastern, Mass.

Presiding was his Excellency the Most Rev. Daniel A. Cronin, Bishop of Fall Kiver, Mass. The degrees were conferred by the Rev. John T.

Carr, CSC. Stonehill College is a Liberal Arts Co-educational College. Also attending the college are David and Jacqueline Passabet. GEORGE L. DARM, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Max Darm of Andrew graduated June 4 from State University, Agricultural and Technical College at Far- mlngdale, New York with an AAS Degree in Ornamental Horticulture. George has been named to the Dean's List and Is also a recipient of two awards. He Is a member of the Phi Theta Ktppa National Honor Society and was a 1969 graduate of Naugatuck High School. At present he Is living In Seymour with his wife, the former Janice Jarrett of Middlebury.

CHARLES KIRK Commencement speaker was Bruce M. Lansdale, director of The American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he has been since 1955. At Mount Herman, Charles has been an honor student, a member of the horseback riding club, basketball manager and student welcoming committee. He will attend Drew University in the fall. Six of the U.S.

presidents had no children. They were Washington, Madison, Jackson, Polk, Harding- and Buchanan, who was a bachelor. Severine Neff Receives Baccalaureate Degree MISSSKVKRINRNKI'T Miss Severine Neff received a baccalaureate degree during a commencement exercises at Barnard College, a women's undergraduate college of Columbia University in New York. Miss Neff, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Victor Neff ot 120 Timothy Road, was recently awarded a full fellowship to study for a PhD Degree in music theory and composition at Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Science. She was also awarded a fellowship at Brandeis University and was accepted at Princeton and Columbia Universities. Of the 40 presidents' wives, five arc living: Mrs. Trumnn, Mrs.
