Orangeburg fair hero today Through some miscalculation a goal was missed after ona of the touchdowns and another was blocked 1 so the annual score of 13 to 0 was missed by a point It haa been aome-i thing of an unwritten law in recent 'years that the 13 to 0 score ahould be the order of the day at the annual I classic It was a thrilling game The two touchdowns were sensational in the 'extreme Both were bolts from the ihlue as it were Something on the I order of tha booming of the bomba of the airplanes flying overhead Tho first half had been a scoreless affair in which the Citadel had made what was to prove its ona big drive of the day and failed to score The Bulldogs were off to a flying alert and Gamecock supporter were a bit dismayed for a few moments They i did not know that it was a gesture and there were audible sighs of relief 'when Berry's attempted placement went wide after the early Citadel drive had been halted inside the 20 yard Fnmhla Helps Bird And then the second half The off by Bill Jeffords was an omen This modest youth with the educated toe kicked one for tho home folk to start it by hooting tho ball far over tho goal line There were no untoward incidents nntil several play had been run and an exchange of kick made Then tho Bird got a hrealc contributed by no less a luminary than O'Shaughnesay Citadel brightest star who for a moment lost his judicial poise long enough to fumble Frankie Meyer alert aa usual took no chance on tho recovery and covered the ball with his leg a well as his hands This was on the 82 yard line The subsequent development was enaeted in faster time than the few secondi needed to dwenbe it There wai a 'shift of the Gamecock lint with tho opposition shifting too but not quite enough Meyer shot down tho field as the ball waa passed to Jeffords more than the necessary live yards back With his father looking on Bill threw the hall into tho arms of Meyer eight yards from the line of aerimmage and with the linemen and backs getting in the Interference Frankie went ahead never hesitating nntil he had passed the line The Birds were forced to bo content with six points for tho moment lor Wagner placed hi huge bulk la front suggestion of tho once well known shimmy in it brought the ball baek to midfieW Bill Holland then -took charge Ho broke through the line and was in the open The first second and third Citadel tackier Jaskiewies in to kick the goal Tne usually dead shot lost his cunning for the second and the ball went wide of tho posts but that was a minor waa no question that the better team won After its threat Whether or not Columbia will remain in tha high school rac for th itsta championship In football will be decided at tha university field this afternoon when th local sloven meats the Latta team whieh has played good football Added -to all this tha Garnet and Gold hit a winning stride early in tha season and ha held that stride aided greatly by th fact that no player haa suffered an injury of any consequence It ia hard to imagine tha team from Latta high school whieh has only 22 students defeating an eleven that won over Bataiburg-Leeiville with its tee-rifle driving force over Richmond academy which haa lost only ono other gam In tha last two seasons and over Asheville on of tho strongest teams in North Carolina Yet such things hava happened and it is well within the realms of
