Lester Patrick, Hockey, Succumbs VICTORIA, B.C. (UPI)--Lester Patrick, hockey's "silver fox" who earned fame as a player, and executive, died here Wednesday night at the age of 76. former head of the New York Rangers oif National Hockey League, had been suffering from cancer. At his bedside, when he died were his sons, Lynn Patrick, general manager of the Boston Bruins, and Murray (Mua) Patrick, general manager of the Rangers. The Patrick en- much the same position in hockey that the late Connie Mack enjoyed in baseball.

In his youth he was a star player; later he coached teams to titles; and still later he ruled a hotkey empire. All told Patrick was active in hockey for. 56 years and was connected with the major league for 19 consecutive seasons. As a player or manager he participated in 15 Stanley Cup playoffs and his clubs won the cup eight times. As a player Patrick was rated one of, the great roving defense- men of all time.
