McDONALD, Ferne December 30, 1951 Lloydminster, Saskatchewan May 24, 2021 Calgary, Alberta On Monday, May 24, 2021 Ferne received her well-earned wings and left us heartbroken at the age of 69 years. Ferne was born in Lloydminster, SK, but was raised and lived in Calgary. She spent most of her career in the oil industry where she earned a reputation of honesty, loyalty and hard work. Ferne left no stone unturned to get results, and treated everyone fairly and with respect. Golf was her particular passion and with Gary they enjoyed many great golfing trips.

Everyone who saw her swing marveled at its perfection and purity. She was convinced that this was going to be her best year ever. Unfortunately, however, Ferne was diagnosed with an insidious form of cancer before Easter. True to form she never complained and worked through the pains and hardships as her health deteriorated. Her brave attitude and demeanor endeared her to the staff at the Rockyview Hospital, and later with the palliative care nurses and attendants.

Ferne; we are going to miss you terribly, and you certainly showed what heroism and bravery really mean. To the very end, this kind, generous and loving soul worried about others before herself. Left mourning her loss are her loving husband Gary, her sister Deborah, the McDonald family, Clea, special friend John Haddon and a larger extended family throughout the province. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Ivor Bruce and Kirby (nee Enlund) Bruce. As per wishes there will be no service.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. The family would like to thank all of the nursing staff in Unit 73, 81 and 82 throughout her journey. A special thank you as well to the palliative care team including Nicole, Tara and Leigh for their kindness and care at home. Thank you to McInnis and Holloway for the final arrangements as well. In living memory of Ferne McDonald, a tree will be planted in the Ann Sandy Cross Conservation Area.

Mom is survived by her children, Joanne (Peter), Jay (Jennifer), Mike, and Don (Ali). Gramma is survived by her grand-children, Joe (Amy), Emily, Matt, Haley, Rebecca, Amy, and Ryan. Great Gramma is survived by Autumn and Rae.

Margie was extremely proud of all her children, grand and great grand children and loved to celebrate their successes. In her younger days, she was always there for football, rugby and hockey games, music recitals, skating competitions, and the like. Margie was born and raised in Calgary. She attended St. Mary's High School, graduated as a registered nurse from the Holy Cross Hospital, and worked in hospitals and clinics in Calgary and Norman, Oklahoma.

She was an avid golfer and enjoyed a glass of wine with the ladies after 18. She attained a Master designation in bridge and was an accomplished painter. For some reason, Margie had a passion for fast cars. Kids in the neighborhood would often wonder why the lady down the block drove a yellow Trans Am to get groceries. She passed away one month after celebrating her 90th birthday, a day that she truly enjoyed.

Our deepest appreciation goes to the doctors and staff at Foothills Medical Centre ER and Unit 36 who cared for her with humanity and skill. We are especially grateful that all respected Mom's and our wishes without judgement. Special thanks to Dr. Christine Banage and her team. Thanks also to the staff at Valley Ridge Lodge for providing a warm secure home and just the right amount of independence over the past few years.
