CHOCOLATE PARTY CAKE 2 '/i 3 3 cup light or dark . raisins cup walnuts cup shortening cups sugar eggs cups sifted cake flour % cup cocoa IVfe teaspoon salt 1 Vfe ,teaspoons soda 1V4 cups buttermilk or sour milk 1 Vfe teaspoons vanilla Rinse, drain and chop raisins. Chop walnuts. Cream shortening and sugar together thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time, beating welj after each addition. Sift together flour, cocoa, sail and soda. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Blend in vanilla, raisins and walnuts. Grease pan (13 x 9M> x 2 inches) and line bottom with greased waxed paper. Turn in batter. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F.) about 1 hour, or until pick inserted in center comes,out clean. Cool about 15 minutes. Invert over wire rack to remove cake. Peel off waxed paper. Cool thoroughly before frosting. Frost as desired. Makes 24 (2-inch) squares.
