Smith passed away at his home in Antioch last Saturday morning. The deceased was 68 years of age and has made his home here for a number of years. Besides a wife he leaves a son, Harry Smith, and daughter, Miss Myrtle Smith, and a grandson to mourn his loss.

The funeral services were held from the residence Monday morning. The services being conducted by Rev. Sylvester of the Methodist church and the interment made in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mrs. Catherine Nolan died very suddenly at her home in Antioch on Sunday morning of heart disease.

The deceased had lived here with her husband for over thirty years and was very widely known and r'espected. Her husband, a son and three daughters survive her. The funeral services were held' from the Catholic church Wednesday morning and the interment made in the Catholic cemetery, THE SHOW AT THE PAVILION On April 23rd, at the Pavilion, the well known Beaty will give their show. It should, however, always be borne in mind that these comparatively little known and lately often misreqresented auriferous sands exist not as a natural product, ready for the miner, the investor, the speculator, but must be brought forth by the intelligent efforts of man in this intance greatly assisted by the always present and ever active forces of nature." Walter Wight has started to erect a new garage. The building is of large dimensions and Mr. Wight will be able to do any work in the automobile line. There are nine autos in town and vicinity and prospects for several more in the very near future. Miss Idah Miller, and Miss Nellie Moiles, Harry Carney and Jess Smith of Crockett spent Sunday here with friends.

JOAN OF ARC The fete day, on April 29, at Orleans, France, will be held as usual this year in commemoration of the famous battle, in which Joan of Are defeated the English. Premier Clemenceau has had the sense not to in.terfere with it. And by the way, there is a copy of Mark Twain's Joan of Arc in the Martinez Free Library. It is a book worth reading and will live when all his other books have passed into the dusty death of libraries. A.

B. Wilson, in his launch "El Pajaro," took a party out for an early morning ride to Vallejo and Mare Island. Those who were in the launch were A. B. Wilson and wife, Miss McIntyre, Miss Banham and Miss McMahon.

Miss Leila Veale started yesterday for a month's trip to Los Angeles, San Diego and the other southern cities. Mr. and Mrs. R. G.
