James Robertson and family were the guests Sunday of Decatur friends. Charles Fague is learning the barber business in the shop of Frank Dubois. Larkin Fesler is building a new rool on his residence and giving it a coat of paint. Mrs. Aaron Goodale left Wednesday for Lincoln, where she will visit relatives'.

H. Towers is again on the road In the interest of the Champaign county nursery. Mrs. Evalena Still and Mrs. Rev.

Robertson were in Decatur on business Tuesday. Jesse Fouts and family moved to Forsythe Monday. He will work on the Illinois Centra! section there. Frank McMullen's mother died at Farmer City Sunday. Frank drove over Monday to attend the funeral.

Will Shannon has returned home from Spring Valley where he has been study- Ing telegraphy with his brother. Johnson, the painter and a graduate of the famous Keeley Institute, fell from grace last Saturday by getting drunk. Mrs. Charles James, wife, agent at Oreana, and daughter spent Sunday with relatives returning home Monday. Master Clyde Patterson of Sullivan returned home Monday after a visit of five days with the family of his uncle, J.

W. Patterson. Charles H. Shannon and family returned to their home in Spring Valley, Monday after having visited their many friends and relatives here. M.

Tabor of the telegraph office went to Oreana Saturday and had charge of the telegraph office during the absence of the agent for a few days. Sam Strever was thrown from a horse last week, receiving painful bruises on the right arm. The arm swelled considerably and had to be lanced Sunday. Harvc Tooley and wife returned Monday from Mt. Vernon.

They returned home Saturday afternoon accompanied by E. E. Jeter. Everet used to lived with the family of one of the ladies. Frank Deitz got on a "high lonesome" Saturday morning and proceeded to "storm the fort" by whipping his wife and "crippling" his furniture.

For the pleasure of doing so he was taxed S5 and trimmines, amounting to S9.30, Squire Welton's court Saturday. The Illinois Central will run special trains from Decatur to Monticello three days during the Piatt county fair, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week. Train leaves Argenta at 8:23 a. returning train leaves Monticello at 6 o'clock m. The fare on and the other days of the fair will be 55 cents for the round trip from Argenta.

A large number from Argenta will attend as usual. Logan McKarihan "looked on the wine when it was red" to such an extent Sunday as to make people resemble ants in size and strength. He started out to annihilate the populus by using his fast on Arthur Betz and Jake Swinehart, without a word of provocation. Before he got through with these two boys, one at a time, he gave it up as a bad job. He was not arrested, as a matter of course, but young Betz was and was fined S0.50, which was all right, but why are not all treated alike? J.

W. Patterson received a sample of cheese made by the Sullivan creamery and cheese factory, the machinery of which is precisely like that now in position here in our cheese factory and creamery, and put up by tho same parties. The sample cheese was taken to the merchants of Argenta, who pronounced it most excellent--fully as good as the best. They will likely carry a stock of the Sullivan cheese. The Sullivan factory are selling readily all the cheese and butter they can make, and yet our factory, just like it, has not been started.

Messrs. Dr. E. H. Thomas and W.

T. J. Cooper think there Is money in it and any dissatisfied stock holder can sell his shares to them. At Thomas and Cooper have bought several at a bargain. It is thought the factory will start as soon as these gentlemen obtain a controlling Interest.

Argenta should not, allow other towns to down them in this manner. Aug. 11. Bills are op announcing a Republican mass meeting at the Republican hail soon. Hon.

W. F. Calhoun and A. H. Mills of Decatur are to be the speakers.

This will be the opening of the campaign at this place. Burt Glazebrook met with an accident recently that nearly resulted seriously. He was cutting bands at a threshing machine when he aceidently drove the knife Into his arm just barely missing the large artery. Prompt attention and a miss of an half inch saved his life. Aug.

A. Armstrong is visiting her mother, Mrs. A. Nelson, in Ramsey this week. Otto Cole is dangerously ill with inflammation of the bowels.

He appeared to be a little better last night. Jesse L. Smith is clerking for J. L. Hlght Son, bankers.

Jesse has the knack and skill of succeeding in almost any thing he undertakes. Mrs.McKinney who lives two and one- half miles south of town has been sick for a month and is gradually growing worse. Her death is daily expected. It is rumored that A. Coombs our railroad agent Is to be exchanged for some stranger.

We hope it is a mistake for Mr. Coombs makes a good agent and Is well lilted by everybody. Every one Is looking forward to next week whan the only fair in Mason county begins and lasts for four days. The officers of the association are busily eneaged in making arrangements to have a grand good fair. From reports this year promises to surpass any fair we have had here yet.

The trotting and pacing horses are daily training to be in pood condition for that occasion. The race track is in good condition, and all the stalls and buildings are being repaired for exhibits of all products of the farm. All are cordially invited to come and see if you are not well paid. A good band from Chicago will play all the four days. Aug.

T. 0. Holcomb will move into his new residence this week. The Osborn brothers arrived Sunday opening from Latham. William Fipps came from St.

Louis and spent Sunday here. Most of the threshing will be done this week in this vicinity. Harry Bitter and his men are plastering H. Bauman's now house. Mrs.

William Gulliford left Sunday night for a visit with friends In Ohio. Charles and wife returned to their home at Camden, last week. Mrs. John Bevelhammer and daughter Mary, are visiting relatives in Bloomington. Lizzie Milas and Becca Torrence of Bement spent Sunday with Maud Gulliford.

Miss Emma James and brother of Mansfield visited relatives. here last week. Nelson Dnell and daughter, Mrs. Vaset, left last Saturday for an extended visit In Chicago. W.

P. Mitchell of Alma is transacting business here this week. He is selling territory for a patent churn. A Prohibition rally is announced to be held at the school house Thursday night Rev. Martin Hilbrlsh of Los Angeles, will be the speaker.

Blacker moved his family and household effects to Lincoln Tuesday. Miss Lizzie Dubson of, Lodge was the guest of Dr. Wood and wife over Sunday. Miss Effle Moore returned Friday from an extended visit with friends in Chicago. John Duvall and family of Farmer City spent Sunday with HarryMarquiss and wife.

The first of a series of nlckle concerts given by the Y's was held Thursday evening. Rev. J. M. Francis and Miss Etta McFadden were married at the Union church, Wednesday Aug.

5. Mesdames Dewees and Gantz left Tuesday morning for Attica Springs, for the benefit of their health. A pleasant surprise was given Mrs. W. Kern at her home last Tuesday, the occasion being her fifty-first birthday.

Dr. May has returned from an extended visit with her folks. On her return she was agreeably surprised to find that the doctor had built a commodious addition to their house during her absence. Little Roy Dyke while attempting to climb oa a passing farm wagon fell under the wheels and had his leg crushed between the knee and thigh. The driver did not see him and was not to blame.
