Sharks are seen devouring many bodies and it is feared that but few will be recovered from the water. The opinion is freely expressed that a torpedo was exploded under the bottom of the steamer Maine.

The Central Cable Company reports to the Postal Tel. Co. that its cable to Cuba has been cut, where or why is not known, as this was the only cable directly connecting the Island of Cuba and the United States. C. H. Zimmerman of Evanston, 111., Field Secretary of the Christian ship League, will address the citizens of Dixon on next Monday evening, Feb. 8 at the.Court House. A movement has been set on foot to organize the moral elements of this community without regard to church or political affiliation for the better enforcement of our laws.

The officers who are endeavoring to do this need to feel that they have the support of all who are in the welfare of our city. Mr. Zimmerman has given years to the study of these questions and is an eloquent and vigorous speaker. A Rare Treat Is in store for those who would listen to the best vocal and instrumental, solo, quartette aud orchestral music the county affords. As announced elsewhere in program published this evening, a concert of this character, through the wonderful reproductions of the graphophone, will be given tomorrow evening at the Baptist church.

We have heard the instrument and the reproductions are almost absolutely perfect, and given with wonderful clearness and power. At the merely nominal price of admission the house should be crowded full.
