Corrspondsnt SANFORD 8TADIUM ATHENS Ga Nov 14 The greatest crowd In tha history of southern football jammed this picturesque little stadium today to watch the aptly named Green Wav6 of Tulane university roll and roar to a twenty to seven ictory over the heretofore undefeated forces of tha University of Georgia Nearly 40000 persons from every state In the South were on hand as the Green Wave battered down the Georgia breakwater and established Itself as far and away the mightiest machine in the South Not only did the victory prove Tu-lane the class of Dixie it proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that the New Orleans eleven la one of the finest In the country and must be seriously reckoned with when the time comes for the aWard of national honors Tulane' triumph today was the 10th consecutive victory scored over southern teams and kept the Green Wave riding high wide and handsome with the small and select group of undefeated major elevens Tha Tulans team that cracked Georgia today had everything Its line from wing to wing was a stone wall allowing Georgia the team that licked Yale and among others but five first downs Its backfleld composed of Don Zimmerman Papa Felts Francis Payns and Lowell Dawson did everything a backfleld la supposed to dot It gained 191 yards from rushing to 91 for Georgia and it completed four passes out of seven for a total gain of It yarda The mighty New Orleans eleven faltered but once and -that in the middle of the third quarter when Georgia slipped over a long pasa down the middle for a touchdown The game waa less than a minute old when Tulane'a line was called upon to show Its strength On the second play after the kickoff Zimmerman fumbled and Catfish recovered for the Georgians on Tu lane's 21 yard 11ns A fsw seconds later Georgia made it first down on tha six yard line At this point the Tulane line bore down to business and four Georgia smashes netted but one yard The ball went over and only threat of the day excepting of course the touchdown pass was at an end Tulane moved Into action a few minutes later when Glover's quick kick caught Georgia napping and rolled to the one yard line where It was downed by the mighty Dalrymple Georgia kicked out to its own 45 yard line A short pass and a penalty placed Tulane on Georgia's IS yard Una On tha second down Zimmerman faded deep to the right and let the ball fly Haynes right end caught it over hie shoulder on the two yard line and stepped across for a touchdown Tha extra point was added o- a pan from kick formation Dawson to Haynes Tulans started Its second touchdown drive from Georgia's 47 yard line In the middle of the second quarter In two bucks "Pa" Felts and Zimmerman slammed through the tackles for a first down on the 15 yard line On third down Zimmerman the sweetest all-round back this writer has seen this season dropped deep and tossed a high one In the general direction of Haynes Haynes who know how to drop a pass pulled It down on Georgia's 21-yard line Then came the only real break Tulane got all day On fourth down Zimmerman uncorked another pass This tlms Dalrymple who snagged the ball on Georgia's fouryard line but fumbled when Sullivan Georgia's second string quarterback charged him from the rear The official ruled Sullivan's charge illegal and gave the ball to Tulane four yards from the promised lend Felts was buried back on his first try at the line but on the second shot cracked through standing up Zimmerman's place kick was wild Tulane'a third and final touchdown cams late In the third period and followed a weak kick by Whlre Georgia fullback Taking the ball on the enemy's 26 yard line Tulane sparred around for one or two plays and then handed the ball to Payne who awung wide to his left and then cut back through for a touchdown This time Zimmerman didn't miss his placement The big moment for the Georgia supporters had come Just a fsw minutes before Payne's run when little Homer Key's pass to Mott was good for 60 and a touchdown Standing on his own 40-yard line Key swung straight down the middle Mott the same young man who ruined last Saturday took It on the dead run and out raced Payne the remaining thirty yards to the goal line Catfish Smith kicked the extra point It made the score Tulane II Georgia 7 and It seemed as if the Geor glens might stage knother of their typical comebacks Tulans was Just too much foot' nail team The game settled another little matter besides the conference championship it settled the argument that has been going on down Continued On 8econd Sport Page
