held at Terra Nova high school for seventh and eighth graders Linda Mar with 119 points heat out second place Ortega by 22 points to win the seventh grade team championship Ortega totaled 136 points in the eighth grade division to capture the team trophy- Linda Mar was second with 77 points AUDREY ALEXANDER of San Andreas set two 50-yard dash Entries Accepted For Annual Kennedy Golf Tournament in 65 and 100-yard dash in tied for first in the softball 1321k and placed second in the high jump to win the seventh grade outstanding girl award John three second place finishes added to a first place in the 100-yard dash gained him enough points to win the outstanding award for the seventh grade boys He attends Linda Mar school KERRY LAUER won all four of the events in which she participated to earn the outstanding athlete award for the eighth grade girls Her 6:285 mile run set a new record as did her leap in the running broad jump She also took first in the 220-yard run and 440-yard run She goes to Cabrilk) school Mike Ditlevson took first in the 50-yard and 100-yard dashes and jumped to a new record in the running broad jump and anchored the winning 440-yard relay to win the top athlete Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf's testimonial in Los Angeles Needless to say when all the old stars get together at one of these banquets the old days begin to unfold "It was a pleasure introducing Pappy to the members of the Big Ten Club" said Bauman "He was one of the game's greatest coaches" Waldorf recently retired from the San Francisco 49er organization as personnel director "Pappy saw the handwriting Chuck Thompson and Mike Continued on Page 11A The annual Larry Kennedy Memorial golf tournament has been scheduled for June 23 at the Sharp Park golf course Tee off time is 11:30 am The event is cosponsored by the Pacifica Chamber of Commerce and the Pacifica Tavern Owners Proceeds from the tournament go to benefit the youths of Pacifica ACTUALLY THE tourney will start June 22 the day all the committee members stop worrying about the plans to make the event successful and pick up their golf clubs and day a fun round of golf Entry blanks are available at any local tavern or at the Chamber JOHN BUCKLE 5 Tigers Make Cox COX TURNER of Commerce office Entries close June 17 THE 935 ENTRY fee includes green fees tee prizes refreshments on the course' dinner snd trophies The awards dinner will be held at Restaurant following the tournament on June 23 with no host cocktails beginning at 7 pm Dinner for guests of the golfers will cost an additional $850 Hole-in-one tournaments will be softball team repeated this year as the North Peninsula' League champions however the Tigers failed to advance as far as last year Last year the Tigers won their first game in the Central Coast Section Region 1 playoff However this year the local team couldn't overcome the effective pitching of Notre Dame's Sheila Langrock who tossed a two-hitter in leading her club to a 7-2 win DANA GRANT and Jill Lucchetti got the only two hits Losing pitcher Gail Cox who carried an unblemished 11-0 record into the game and was named the GNPL's most valuable player gave up nine hits but six errors proved fatal Notre Dame scored four runs in the seventh to ice JUERGENS Coach and Player Pappy Waldorf and Alf Bauman and professional football for the most of my life In our conversation we got on the subject of players' salaries Today the superstars like Joe Namath are worth millions but in Alt's the there was little money "Sid Luckman who quarterbacked our Chicago Bears made the most that I $25000" said Alf "Of course we linemen made less We made those guys look good for about $3000" Bauman has attended several Big Ten Club meetings as well as traveling with his lovely wife to different countries Earlier he was a speaker at the testimonial of Bernie Blerman coach for five years of the national championship University of Minnesota football team and a rival of Northwestern At the time of Alf's trip to Los Angeles for the Blerman dinner he was given a book entitled "Tournament of Roses" a pictorial history of the Rose parade and I Rose Bowl I borrowed it and indeed it is a book you don't want to put down The book covers 80 years of colorful history of the two events It was written by Joe Hendrickson sports editor of the Pasadena Star-News Alf is active in the political circles of Pacifica His daughter Pat Ostovar is a local civic leader "She gets all the press but I enjoy helping her with her programs" laughed Alf who is an inspector for all the local elections working mostly out of Westview school Alf who played many years with the Chicago Bears Is a lifetime gold card carrying member for all professional football games "If nice to get together with some of the old Gordie Soltau YA Tittle Frankie Albert Otto and rehash old memories" concluded Alf Alf who lives at 447 Lewis lane Is certainly a colorful person There's not too many people I can personally connect with past sports but I'm glad there are people like the Alf Baumans SUMMER BASEBALL The Pacifica Parks Beaches and Recreation Department's most successful youth sports summer baseball for boys and girls seven through 12 years of age-will start Monday June 20 Registration for the program will be at Sharp Park school Saturday June 4 from 10 am to 12 noon Parents who can't make the registration led the team in batting with a 547 average and 39 hits was joined by senior Moe Turner who batted 519 and had 31 RBIs and two home runs Juniors Dayna Dias first baseman who finished with a 373 average and shortstop Dana Grant who had an 894 fielding average to add to her 357 batting average were also selected TERRA NOVA coach Kathy Krolick was voted the coach of the year Former Padfican Linette Sherwin now living in Half Moon Bay was also selected to the first team DIAS Skateboard Whirl Gary Harrison tests out the skateboard track he hnd some neighborhood friends built In the back of his
