1987 season is a repeat of the first half today when his undefeated and untied team visits the Philadelphia Eagles for a noon NFC interdiviskmal contest New Orieans upset Cleveland last week in its' opener and the Saints are anxious to dose out the strike-threatened season with a victory over the 0-1 Eagles of Buddy Ryan the recognized curmudgeon among NFL head coaches According to the latest blather emanating from strike central otherwise known as the National Football Ifeague Players Association the playepra union will stage a walkout Tuesday because of an 65000 to have pro football with the young combative Eagles Saints coach Jim Mora enjoys a homecoming of sorts today He was the guiding light of the USFL champion PhiladelphiaBaltimore Stars before succeeding Bum Phillips in New Orleans Mara in fact was offered the coaching job at Philadelphia before the Saints butted in and stole him away He returns not as a favorite son though but as an opposition leader He also returns with the respect of the Eagles all Jim Mora teams the Saints know their said Eagles linebacker Mike Reichenbach inability to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL Management Coundl If the strike becomes a reality the 1987 season might well conclude with the games of Week Two Therefore a Saints victory today could give New Orleans its first-ever winning season in 21 years of existence As if that mind-boggling implication was not cause enough for some trepidation among the Saints there is the added realization that a 2-0 record could mean a clear path to the exalted playoffs should the season be resumed in the final weeks of the pre-strike schedule Add to all this historical background the fact that no Saints team has ever won the first two games of a season Thus
