Sedalia Evening Democrat, KEW SERIES. SEDALIA, MISSOURI TUESDAY EVENING OCTOBER 2, 1900. PRICE, FIVE TO 8ELL THE ROAD. Negotiatious for Purchase of The Colorado Line. THE MAY GET IT That Is, It Will Be Bougflit By the Missouri Faciilc and the Wabash Railways.

it is known the deal a short time since was within $50,000 of a clinch. With regard to the speculation over the location of the fair it has been considered highly probable that the Creve Coeur line, west of ForvSythe Junction, possessed many strong advantages, and that it would be the main artery to the grounds. In that event the purchase of the property by the Wabash and the Missouri Pacific would be a profitable measure alone. A CRAP SHOOTER Arrested This But Is Too Negotiations for the purchase of the Creve Coeur line, extending from St. Louis to fifty-nine miles, and formerly known as the St.

Louis, Kansas City and Colorado, but latterly as the St. Louis line, are at this time being conducted very quietly in the joint interest of the Wabash and the Missouri Pacific, says Globe- Democrat. The St. Louis syndicate of capitalists which purchased this property, and after acquiring the Santa bonded interest took it out of the hands of the federal court, went to work very actively a few months ago with a view of extending the through an undeveloped section of Missouri to connection with some of the leading trunk lines desiring an inlet to St. Louis.

Contracts were given out and grading work proceeded vigorously until a few days since when, as already announced in the Globe- Democrat, the subcontractors were ordered to suspend operations. It was at llrst intimated that the St. Louis and San Francisco desired to purchase the line and crowd out a possible competitor in the territory. Later it leaked out that the Wabash and the Missouri Pacific had reached the conclusion that it would be better to take in the Creve Coeur line before the work of extension proceeded any further. The Creve Coeur line reaches St.

Louis from Forsythe Junction over the tracks of the Wabash through Forest park. It is a competitor of the Missouri Pacific for Creve Coeiir lake excursion business, and at Labadie, forty-five miles out, it runs within a few feet of the Missouri Pacific main line. The St. Louis end of the Creve Coeur line would be valuable to the Wabash, and the west end would be quite valuable to the Missouri Pacific as an additional track for heavy traffic and as affording a cutoff, avoiding a steep grade on the main line near Labadie. Regarding how he came into possession of them, he gave no satisfactory explanation. Burnett also had a number of dice on his person, several of which had been hollowed out preparatory to loading them and engaging in crap-shooting. The prisoner had $4.10 in nickels and dimes in his pockets when taken in custody, and also a number of 3S-calibre cartridges, but no pistol was found.
