As a protector between the rim and the tube, it is very vital to the life of the tube. It prevents deterioration from the rust that invariably gathers on the rim. It also prevents the tube from pineh- ling between the edges of the tire on the rim.

Three or four plies of fabric ordinarily compose the flap. It is constructed to conform to the shape of the tire and should lay perfectly straight between the tube and rim without buckling. The long notch at the end of the flap should lay on top or next to the rim, in order to prevent the tube creeping up and being pinched in the long groove. The end with the round hole should lie next to the tube. If the tube is a trifle too short, it is economy to purchase a new flap rather than to risk slitting the holes to lengthen it.

The cut, however, must never be so long that the edges of the flap do not come together. PROSPERITY 0 STUTE PROVED Fails to Diminish Calif.
