HARDENING PROCESS To talk about the destructiveness of war would be to talk about whet everybody knows There is however one thing which war does to people that is often if not quite generally overlooked That thing is ths hardening process which often unconsciously goes on in the minds and 'hearts of men and women end even of children It is beyond reason to believe that human beings can renter their thinking and their efforts over a period of year on the destruction of human life without experiencing this hardening process However justifiable or even inevitable participation in war may be the beat of men and women are confronted withrihia danger and young people and children fall easy victims of it We cannot think continuously in the jerms of the destruction of human life without losing a sense of it value And when everything is fair in war the tendency is to make everything fair in peace The verdict of history is that following every war the moral trend is down It is this fact which now lays a tremendous responsibil ity upon the Church of Jeeus Christ Ncvct before in the Inng history of the Church has the demand been eo imperative and urgent for New Testament teaching the implanting in minds and hearts of the principlee the morel and spiritual ideals of Jesus Christ Only one thing will save our world whatever may be the outcome of the San Franriaco Conference and that one thing is the Gospel of Jesus Christ Preachers Sunday School teachers Church Officer all members of sll churches fathers and mother should be keenly aware of this hardening process and should make every effort to counteract it Unless the American Church rorie in now and rnmes in strong: unless there is an upsurge of interest in preaching and teaching the Gospel of Christ what promises to be the dawn of a new day may turn nut to he the twilight which is but the prelude of a dark night SUNDAY MAY 11 The second Sunday in May earh year has been observed by the churrh as And it is a high day for the Church prop rriy so However this observance has in recent years evolved into Christian Family Week including both the first and second Sundays of the month and the day Rut there is one thing to be men tinned here Mother's Day nr the last day of Christian Family Week which is Sunday 3Iay 13 ought to he a Decision Day Always I have tried to make it that Now if several
