The Sapulpa Christian with slight change COLUMN VK 1 -i V' In my opinion the greatest news for this edition of the paper is the report concerning the Revival Of the forty-one new' members added during the Revival thirty of them came by profession of faith I do not hare the exact figures but I think that the the Revival fund totaled over $45000 This proves that a good meeting will pay for itself without any pressing appeal being made for i finances The fact that we had packed auditorium at al-lmost every service with people responding at almost every 5 invitation indicates that the meeting was consistently good tloughout In other words our progress throughout the meeting was hot by sudden spurts or jumps but generally steady and progressive throughout Brother and Sister Pollock have won a lasting place in our hearts by the splendid work that they did while they were here in the meeting' We must use these good people again in a meeting We have all been greatly helped by their presence Your pastor was especially glad to see so many of our members attending the Revival night by night It was a great encouragement to him I feel that this means that all our members who attended the Revival will realize what a great little church we can have when we all pull together Let's fill the auditorium next Sunday morning and by that action show our continued loyalty to the church CONCERNING THE SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE Brother Pollock has offered to pay for the cost of a telegram to him telling of our Sunday School attendance for next Sunday provided that our attendance is larger than it was last Sunday Since we had 279 last Sunday we must have at least 280 in order to make him pay for the telegram' So teachers and department heads please get busy and contact your absentees Some of the classes and departments were below their average last week in spite of the splendid attendance It was the large increase in our adult attendance that gave us the good report We hoj)e that we will continue to build our Sunday School attendance on through Blaster i VA? GOLGOTHA When ev'rjr human prop i gone And only God remains Tin then the noul shall freedom find From all that now em-hain I Anther I'aluwwa Tnm Wntira Imrin bora He will come away feeling more charitable toward all the world even toward those excessively foolish young men who regard church-going as a soft performance 9 I advocate a man's joining in church work for the sake of showing his failh by his work ROOSEVELT 15 NEW MEMBERS SINCE LAST SUNDAY We are happy to welcome the following people who have come into our church in this last week of our Revival meeting Those coming by membership are: Mrs Effie Donaldson Route No 1 Euchee Creek Addition: Mrs Altha Lee Crutchfield 208 Washington: Miss Bertha McCall 314 South Elgin Ave Tulsa: Mr and Mrs John Meiser 211 Main and Mrs Margaret Ann Jones 208 West 3rd Those coming by confession of faith and baptism are: Donna Lou Sisk 1017 Grant St Mary Elizabeth Jones 521 Garfield: Virginia Applegate 514 Garfield Loma Culp 815 Washington: Fred Benton 519 Roosevelt Mrs Maxine-Rankin 112 West 2nd Betty Ann Swift Route No 1 Box 106 Sand Springs John Keys 1101 Roosevelt and Patricia Patrick 1000 Grant THIS REVIVAL CAN CONTINUE The spirit of this Revival can continue on if we will only let it If each member will faithfully attend both the morning and evening worship services each Lord's Day and bring their unchurched friends with them we will continue to have large crowds and many new members coming into the church For one thing you have the same preacher and the same people The only thing factor that will be absent is our evangelistic helpers We are hoping- that our REVIVAL CHORUS CHOIR will continue to sing for us on Sunday evening Let us make our Sunday evening services real evangelistic services Services to which we bring our unsaved friends and loved ones as well as our unchurched friends and neighbors By our loyalty on Sunday evening we will make it possible to save souls nr by our disloyalty we the service to degenerate jntoa service for a few of life faithful ones of the church and then it ceases In be a service that will attract the unsaved I make this prediction that if we could encourage one hundred more yf our memljers to support the Sunday evening service on every Sunday evening that we would soon be having a larger attendance on Sunday evening than on Sunday morning Think this over1 If you have not been coming on Sunday evening why not resolve to begin right away Readers Gems THE FLOCKOF GEESE There came a distant honk- ing an old familiJr cry a V-like chain appearing from out of the northern sky I spoke of how it thrilled me the wonder of it all nothing" said my comrade "geese migrate every fall" I saw that old gray gander his eyes alert and keen a bold and dauntless leader the monarch of the scene I saw those far-flung waters the Gulf of Mexico the mighty frozen northland its leagues of swirling snow The spring time and the autumn spread out before me there the years of life rolled by me from youth to silver hair I saw the God who made them the God of hope and peace and yet my friend beside me just saw a flock of geese Stillman El wood in Our Dumb Animals THE CORNER OF THE RUG One of my earliest memories as a boy has to do with the corner of the rug in the room in which my parents slept Something had been under that corner of the rug and the resulting hump was a matter of real curiosity to me On looking beneath the rug I discovered a stack of small envelopes each containing money I' asked my mother What they were are my church envelopes" she said "For several ks 1 have been too sick to go to church but I put nv there each week and when I am able I'll take them to church" Whenever Mom was sick for a few weeks the hump would appear under the corner of the rug To this day when I go into her room I find myself looking at the corner of the rug and thinking of the many times I've seen it humped up excuse me for being personal won't you? 1 know that many times when the church envelopes were accumulating under the corner of the rug there were a dozen places where my mother could have used that money but so far as I know she never touched the money under the corner of the rug until she took it to church One of the most influential things in molding my life was that hump under the corner of the rug I used to say to myself: "Mom must think a great deal of the church to give to it like she does Why she seems to put the church first!" The hump under the rug taught me to put the church first It isn't an easy thing to do but it can la done It takes a great deal -of will power and determination tr lay-aside God's share before doing anything else I know of no moneyoullays which can lie so easily rationalized as those that go to the work of Christ There seem to be a million reasons why giving the church should come second or third or lat instead of first Church giving is voluntary that is true That's what NINE REASONS GIVEN BY THEODORE ROOSEVELT FOR GOING TO CHURCH 1 In this actual world a churchless community a community where men have abandoned and scoffed at or ignored their religious needs is a community on the rapid down grade 2 Church work and church attendance mean the cultivation of the habit of feeling some responsibility for others 3 There are enough holidays for most of us Sundays differ from other holidays in the fact that there are fifty-two of them every year Therefore on Sundays go to church 4 Yes I know all the excuses I know that one can wor ship the Creator in a grove of trees or by a running brook or in a man's own house just as well as in church But I also know as a matter of fact that the average man does not thus worship 5 He may not hear a good sermon at church He will hear a sermon by a good man who with his good wife is engaged all the week in making hard lives a little easier 6 He will listen to and take part in reading some beautiful passages from the Bible And if he is not familiar with the Bible he has suffered a lot 7 He will take part in singing some good hymns 8 He will meet and nod or speak to good quiet neigh- AN ABSURD FABLE A brave young fellow on the street in civilian dress was a gun saying he was on his way to Italy But is your he was asked "To what company do you belong and to what regiment?" He replied in the vein of modern religious individualism I don't belong to a comjuiny I don't wear a uniform I don't make any professions as to be a I want to stand out free and dear living my own life in my own way HOW DEAD ARE If you never play games for the fun of playing your youthful spirit is dead If you do not take time occasionally to enjoy a lauti-ful picture an inspiring sunset noble music you are dead to art If you have only business dealing with people you meet you are dead to fellowship and friendship If you can't tell the difference between the fragrance of an orange grove and a smoking car your sense of smell is dead If you never pray except when in trouble your religion is dying If you do not breathe deeply and assimilate your meals properly your body is dying We are alive in proportion to the variety and vitality of our interests our responsiveness to our surroundings Be alive Providence Young Men This Paper is mailed every week If you do not get your copy please report to the Postmaster Howard's Shoe Rebuilders and Dyers Shoes Dyed All Colors Quality Work and Materials!
