a a a a a a a a Lakota High School holds art Lakota: club Lakota meet. School has started their first art club meeting of the year. The first meeting was held. Thursday, September 17 from 3:40 to 5:00 p.m. The art club consists of seven members; Shirley Mills, David Goeke, Maureen Wertjes, Christensen, Leslie Rieffer, Roxan Miller, and Emily Hoeppner.

Mrs. Budlong is the art instructor. The members elected Shirley Mills. as president and Emily Hoeppner as secretary. We discussed painting with water colors.

On the next meeting the club will' begin their work with water colors. We discussed who would bring' lunch if we wanted it before we' began our work. Mrs. Budlong furnished the lunch for, this meeting Shirley Mills is to bring lunch' for: the next meeting. On September 30, at 3:40 the art club met in Mrs.

art room. Shirley brought lunch and Mrs. Budlong showed pictures of water colors while we' ate. We started to draw a picture for our water color painting. Mrs.

This meeting has been postponed until this date from the regular Thursday meeting date, to get together with the Cub Scouts and their leaders who regularly meet on Monday. Melvin Bratrud will be the hostess. Seneca stars study plant life Seneca: The Seneca Stars 4-H Club met at the home of Barbara and Joy Andre on Saturday, Sept. 20. Eleven members answered roll call by naming their favorite flower. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Barbara Andre.

The group discussed the possibility of taking a club tour this fall. Susan Fortney led the 4-H Pledge. Joy Andre gave a talk on "Potting and Watering House Sheila Madden and Susan Fortney gave a demontration showing how plants absorb water and minerals. Sheryl Breese gave a talk on "Selecting and growing house plants. Mrs.

MILITARY DUTIES Lone Rock: Mr. and Mrs. Dave Weber have received word from their son, Dr. David Weber, that he will begin his Military duties at the U.S. Army Medical School at Fort Houston, Texas.

After a 6 week preliminary training there he will serve the first year of the two years required at the U.S. Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Both Dr. and Mrs. Weber finished their Internship on June 24th at General Hospital, Fresno, Calif.

Signs, marcu improvement to Bancroft SUMMIT 1 Services here Monday for Mrs. Cochran Swea City: A former area resident, Mrs. Francis Dewey Cochran, 73, passed away Friday, October 17, 1969 at 12:40 p.m. at Fairmont Community Hospital, Fairmont, Minn. She had been in failing health tor -the past 7 months.

A Rosary for Elizabeth Eva Cochran was Sunday evening at the Reese-Henry Chapel, and services were Monday morning at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft, with signor Reising officiating. Reese-Henry Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. John Cemetery.

Mrs. Cochran was born February 9, 1896 in rural Kossuth County, to Mr. and Mrs. Gothardt Sanftner, She was educated in rural Kossuth, 'croft and Des Moines. She was married to Francis Dewey Cochran at Bancroft on February 21, 1924.

She had taught school' in Kossuth and Webster Counties, and after marriage, she lived at Moorland, Iowa, 15 years, then on a farm near Swea City for 9 years. For 16 years they farmed near Huntley, Minn. prior to their retirement Fairmont in 1965. She was a member of St. John Vianney.

Catholic Church, She is survived. by her husband; one, son, Roger, Fair-, mont, 3 grandchildren; tivo brothers; Dr. John Sanftner, Swea City, Earl Sanftner, Marathon, Iowa, and two Mrs. Art Peterson, Swea City, and Mrs. Isabelle Dahl, Algona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Halloween party planned at Golf Club Saturday North Kossuth Golf Club members and their guests are invited to a costume Halloween party this Saturday evening October 25, beginning at 7:30 at the Clubhouse. Costumed guests will be judged with a first and second prize given, and one couples prize. Live entertainment and appropriate Halloween games are planned. Guests are requested to bring their own choice of meat for grilling and the remainder of the meal will be prepared by the committee and served for a nominal charge of 75c.

Ledyard ladies visit mission in Sioux City Ledyard: Members of the Ledyard Women's Society of Christian Service visited Sioux City, Iowa on Tuesday, October 14th and attended. "thank you days" at the Wall Street Mission, and Good Will Industries They visited the Harriet Ballou New Hope Center for trainable retarded children and young adults. Betty Crocker coupons are redeemed for cash which pays the salary of a worker at the New Hope Center. The worker is usually a person hard to place in ordinary positions. The Ledyard WSCS collects and sends coupons.

Everyone is welcome to save and contribute to this cause. They may be given to anyone who is a member of the WSCS, or leave it in the box provided at the back of the church. At the Goodwill Industries, it was interesting to see what happens to the bags and boxes of things sent. The Goodwill Industries serves of all handicapped people in workshops throughout the nation. They offer summer camps for the blind, the retarded and the poor.

They have a Christmas shoe party and a thanksgiving dinner for the poor and many other things. They had to see to realize, that this place has been appropriately named Mrs. Mary Bashara and son, Tom, now living in Sioux City accompanied the group on the tour and invited the Ledyard ladies to their home. Tickets will be on sale at the door Friday night. Modern Mixers enjoy tour of Fort Dodge Seneca: The Seneca Modern Mixers Club toured points of interest in Fort Dodge last Monday. The group were first given a tour of the Mead Corporation and saw how shipping cartons of all sizes were made, from the lamination of the paper plus the treatment for their various uses. There are only two such production centers in Iowa, the second being in Waterloo. The group then drove to the Crossroads Shopping Center, where they had dinner together and then spent a couple of hours shopping.

At three o'clock they were guests of The Decorator's Shop, north Fort Dodge. There they were taken on a tour of the entire shop, shown the various imported chrystal and other glass ware, ceramics, floral arrangements. music boxes, candles of all types and description, pictures, wall decorations of all kinds, and finally, the Christmas Room. Here they were served coffee or tea and cookies, and were presented with a gift as each registered. The group enjoyed the day and are looking forward to a similar tour next year.
