EXPRESS WOULD QUIT APACHE DEDICATION PROGRAMMED Methodist Ceremonies Will Open at 10:45 oClock Sunday and Continue Through Day A Miss Joyce Haley Will Study In Michigan ths Summer Miss Joyce Haley daughter of Mrs Helen Haley of Apache has been chosen for membership in tin National music camp at Interlocheii Mich for the coming summer ac-erding to an announcement from Dr Joseph Maddy president of the camp Entrance requirements are on a merit basis Miss Haley is a pupil of Mrs Anderson voice instructor of Chickasha and is a student in Apache high school The National music camp has become world famous as one of outstanding educational and cultural projects Its membership includes more than 1000 young musicians and artists chosen from nearly every state and many foreign countries A faculty of nearly 100 prominent musicians and educators offers instruction in all brunches of music art radio drama and other related arts Affiliated with the University of Michigan the National music camp offers courses in music art speech camp counseling and recreational leadership on tho college level Junior intermediate and high school divisions provide appropriate arts activities for children of elementary junior high and senior high age The 21st programs will include about 200 public performances and numerous broadcasts over local station: AT FAMILY REUNION 77 Lewis Martin Home Is Scene of Gathering Sunday A family reunion was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Iewis Martin Sunday when all of Mrs sisters and brothers were together for the first time in several years All told 77 persons were present A picnic dinner was served outdoors at noon and pictures were taken in the afternoon Relatives present were Mr and Mr Lee Lusk and son Richie Mrs Mable Allred Mr and Mrs Billie Joe Allred Mr and Mrs Claud Nation Mr and Mrs Chester Young and daughters Mrs Pearl Keeler Mr and Mrs Chet Burris and daughter Mr and Mrs Kelley and daughter Mr and Mrs Dick Sharp and children and Mr and Mrs Muri Smith and daughter all of Oklahoma City Mr and Mrs Earl Iusk of Tulsa Mr and Mrs Carl Miller and children of Chickasha Mrs Kate Smith and sons of Verden Mr anti Mrs Shafer anti sons Mn und Mrs Apache Others present were iMrs Betty Aldridge of Apache and Mr and Mrs Sharp of Oklahoma City FINE SHOWING AT ENID Apache Hand Continues Its Good Work In Tri-State Festival Competing in the toughest competition and the largest of the 16 Tri-State festivals members of the Apache band made a fine showing at Enid last week Four superior and five excellent ratings were earned by the 15 entries Seven Apache band members played in the 450-piece massed band thrte members of the glee dub sang in the 500-member massed chorus and one band member played in the symphony orchestra Details of the winners and par-tici pants be found in the school news in this issue of The Review Ruby Samples Hurl Ruby Samples who is roughneck-ing for the Douglas Engineering company on a well near Alden suffered head injuries Saturday night while handling pipe Three stitches were taken In a cut ou hn forehead and six stitches in a cut under his chin Ha was able to go back to work the next night Dunlop Stricken Dunlop was stricken with a heart attack while attending services at the Christian church at 11 a Sunday He was removed to his home three hours later and is reported as getting along satisfactorily He is able to sit up in a chair a portion of the time Former Apache Girl Weds Yale Man on April 2 In a double-ring ceremony performed April 2 at 6 in the home of Mrs Kittye Tailor 124 NE 14th Oklahoma City Miss Dorothy Kiefer became the bride of Bob Lindsley of Yale The bride is the daughter of Mr and Urn Kiefer of Apache and Lindsley is the son of Mr and Mrs Ray A Lindsley 1304 Cleveland Guthrie Rev Walter Bennett pastor of the St Presbyterian church read the service which was performed before a mantel blanked with palms and fern The bride wore a gray afternoon dress with gray accessories and a corsage of bride's roses For some-j thing old she carried a handkerchief handed down through the family of Mrs Dorothea McQueen with whom she made her home in Oklahoma City Mrs Carl Adkins sister of the bride Fort Cobb was her only attendant She wore a pink gabardine 'suit and a corsage of rose-pink carnations Don LindBley Guthrie served his brother as best man Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the home of Mrs Emma Kay Jeffress 312 NE 15th Mrs McQueen served the wedding cake and Mrs Marie McCormick presided at the punch bowl Miss Mary Jo Cox had charge of the guest book After a brief Vedding trip to Texas the couple will establish a home in Yale Mrs Lindsley was graduated from Broxton high school Apache and Draughans business college Oklahoma City Lindsley was graduated from Guthrie high school and attended Oklahoma City university During the war he served four years with I the navy in the southwest Pacific He is now associated with the Mid Continent Life Insurance company of Oklahoma City WALL ASKS RE-ELECTION County Clerk Makes Announcement for Second Term Sam Wall coupnty clerk who this week is making his official announcement for re-election to a second term not only has the experience gained in the office to which he aspires and four experience in Hie county office but he has what he considers a more valuable experience that of technical training in the operation of the photostat machine When the county purchased a photostatic recording machine for the county office Wall took a special training course in the operation of the machine and in addition to his other duties he personally operates the machine the machine affords an error-proof system of recording important legal documents it is doubly important that the technician know how to develop the films Wall said experience in handling the photostat machine is valuable to the Wall has been a resident of the county 31 years He was educated in the Anadarko schools and the Anadarko business college Prior to his service in World War II he was deputy in the county office four years He has a wife and three childm Two years ago he was elected without opposition duties of the office are pretty Wall said I shall expect to limit my campaigning to brief periods from the office However my family and I expect to make an active campaign and meet the voters person-lly" CATHOLIC ALTAR SOCIETY Meeting Was Held at Rectory With Mrs A Nelson as Hostess The Altar society of the Catholic church met at the rectory April 14 with Mrs A Nelson as hostess Thirteen members spent the afternoon quilting Mrs Henry Biehler presented the work of the National Council of Catholic Women Refreshments of sandwiches cookies and coffee were served by the hostess Mrs Arnold Bartosovsky won the prize a glass ice cube dish The rext meeting will be held at th home cf Mrs Charles Nelson April Permission to Abandon Service Is Asked of Corporation Com mission Is Losing Money The Mistletoe Kxpres Service Inc announces tha' it Iris filed with the state corporation commission an application for the abandonment of service to and from Apache A hearing will be set ly the corporation commission and any protests to the request for abandonment will be heard at that time The Mistletoe company is taking this action because It has been handling the Apache business at a loss for the last five months it was said by I A Martin of Oklahoma City district supervisor who vns in Apache Monday This is one of 30 towns in southwestern Oklahoma where the company is asking jier-mission to abandon Ixvausi1 of operating at a loss This loss results from the pioture show owners of southwestern Oklahoma forming a co-operative truck line five months ago by which they deliver their films according to Martin This business formerly wus handled by Alistletoo and its loss resulted in the agencies in the 30 towns going into the red If the Mistletoe service is abandoned here it will mean a real los to Apache as it is the only express service the town has except the railway express which operates by frieght train The Daily Oklahcuva and Times come by Mistletoe and it is not known how or when those papers will be delivered here if the Mistletoe service folds up GEO I) NIX()N ANNOUNCES County ComwiMtioner Asks Voters for Another term'" Announcing his candidacy for an-hther term County Commissioner Geo Nixon made the following statement to the voters Wednesday: announcing my cundiracy for re-election as county commissioner of district No 3 in Caddo county I want to say thanks to my many friends over the district who have asked me to seek the office again do not think that I need to give a long history of my past life as I am a native of Caddo county and have lived with and associated with most of you for the past 45 years I have served as your county commissioner for six yenr during which time I have trie! to give you the best service that was possible without favors to any special clique or group have given my personal attention to roads and bridges on the school bus routes and mail routes and have tried to give each community an equal amount of the road funds that are received I have distributed the road work as nearly equally as posible It has been very difficult at times to give you the service that I would like to give you as you know that most of the county-owned equipment is getting old and worn out and is hard to keep moving like we would want it to do believe that I have proved to you the I am capable of handling the charity cases and the problems of the people who are in need of help and if I am re-elected I will give these cases the same personal attention that I have given before friends it will keep me very busy performing my I will certainly appreciate your vote and if you see fit to re-elect me I wil try togiveyou the best service Clay Williams Has Operation Gay Williams underwent an operation in Wesley hospital at Oklahoma Gty Monday morning for the removal of an intestinal tumor He stood the operation well and his condition is reported as satisfactory School Faculty Re-Elected It is announced that Curoth-ers superintendent and the entire faculty of the Apache school were re-elected at a meeting of the board of education Friday Services dedicating the new addition to the Methodist church building and the Wick pipe organ recently installed will be held at the church Sunday opening at 10:45 a and closing at 4:15 On the program will be four former pastors of the church Rev Palmer of Tulsa Rev York of (Mueller) Ava (Bach-Gounod) (Karg-Elerg) Benediction Rev Hicks Postlude CHURCH FORMED IN 1901 No Charter Members of Congregation Now Reside Here The Apache Methodist church was organized in 1901 and the first pastor was Rev Harry Beck A'l no records of the first year of the church can be found these are the only facts of the first year known to present members except that its first building was erected or the site of the present building late that year The building a frame structure is now the American Legion hall on Main street The first records in possession of the church are for the year 1902 which show the memberslp to number 11 the roll being as follows: Laverly Anna Laverly Abide A Martin II Edens Barnes Mrs I Barnes Kelley Mr and Mrs Twiss Mrs Sudie Yoakum and Mrs Lena Bartont Of the 11 only four are now residing here They are Mr and Mrs Twiss Mrs Yoakum and Mrs Barton Mrs Yoakum has been ill many months and at present is in the Anodarko hospital Mr Twiss recalled yesterday that first service he attended in the church early in 1902 the congregation sat on seats supported by empty nail kegs Records for 1903 show the church enjoyed a good growth that year there being 13 additions The present membership is 225 (Continued on last page) Announce Birth Mr and Mrs Hobbs of route 2 Anadarko are the parents of a daughter who was born in University hospital at Oklahoma City March 29 The baby has been named Omega Jean The Hobbs family formerly resided southwest of Apache Rate Increase May 1 The subscription rates of The Review will be increased to $2 per year in Caddo and Houser Is One of 122 Americans and Canadians Recognized By Foundation Allan Capron Houser of Apache Indian sculptor and painter ia among 112 American and Canadian artists scholars and scientists who were named April' 11 as recipients of Guggenheim fellowships This fellowship stipends total $300000 'and come from a $29 million endowment set up in 1925 by Senator Simon Guggenheim and Mrs Guggenheim as a memorial to their son The awards are made on the basis of work accomplished Houser with his wife and four children recently came to the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Sam Haozous nar Boone from Lawrence Kas where he did war memorials at Haskell institute He has been painting murials in government buildings over the country for the last 12 years except during the par when he was employed at a war plant in Los Angeles Cal He and his family will remain at his home until September when they will go to San Carlos Ariz which he has selected as the scene of Jus wolf on the' scholarship They will live on the Indian reservation there and Allan will do sculptoring and painting among the Indiana This will give him practice which he saps is his principal need now VICKREY HEADS UNION Annaul Meeting of Co-Operative Is Held Tuesday At the annual meeting of the Union Co-Operative exchange Tuesday afternoon Frank Weidemaier was elected director to succeed Frank Fagg and Martin was re-elected director Holding over were three directors Vickrey Massey and Ed Bowling Immediately following the meeting the board of directors met and elected the following officers foV the ensuing year: Vickrey president Martin vice president Ed Bowling secretary-treasurer It was an exchange of offices for Martin and Vickrey they having served as president and vice president respectively the last year Bowling succeeds Frank Fagg as secretary-treasurer the latter retiring because of continued poor health SHOWER FOR ALDRIDGES Recently Wedded Couple Honored at John Drake Home Mr and Mrs Roy Aldridge newly-weds were honored with a shower at the home of Mr and Mrs John Drake Friday evening The couple received many gifts Those present were Messrs and Mesdames Roy Aldridge Neal Tilley and children Clyde Aldridge and children Loyd Cox and children Fay Sellers A Beavers and children Charlie Henderson and children Bill Woods and children Huckleberry and children Pettit Calvin Alexander Grady
