They received many presents from church and friends. Graduates: Miss Artella Brown, Miss Tennie Stamps and Miss Savanah Carter.

Polk is a live wire. Mrs. E. G. Jones has returned after a few weeks' visit with relatives at Sealey.

Rev. A. J. Glass is entertaining the Bryan District Conference, A. M.

E. Church, this week. Mrs. Mary Snell returned from a visit to Houston Saturday. Mrs.

Pearl Fayne of Calvert visited the school closing. Mrs. A. A. Hearne has returned from her visit at Bencfilcy.

AMARILLO. Amarillo, May 22. The joint rally being operated by Mt. Zion Bap tist Church and Carter's Chapel, C. Church, is moving along successfully.

The manager. Rev. James Stout, of California, has broken all records in raising money in this city. More than $1,000.00 have been raised in less than three weeks. The two great concerts given last Thursday and Friday nights netted 284.00.

Crowds which filled both the church and the church yards witnessed them. Rev. A. G. Menogan of Mt Zion and Rev.

William Flourney of Carter's Chapel, have achieved new distinction in having two churches of different denominations work harmoniously to- getner in union rally. Galeda, led by Mrs. "Emma Dansey, this week reported $44.97. Total col lection $61.25. Society, led Jby Mrs. Ora Martin, is doing good work.

She is a good president All the members of the church will play well their part as loyal Christians the second Sunday in June. Sixth Avenue Baptist Church. Mothers' Day at the Sixth Avenue Baptist church was a day to be long remembered. The pastor preached an excellent sermon and Mrs. G.

W. Jackson made a very forceful talk. Sunday the Pilgrim Lodge held their services at the Sixth Avenue. The castor preached a soul-stirring ser- mon and the occasion was enjoyed by all. In the rallythe church raised The drama, "Somewhere in France," was given again by request.

Roy Seay and Miss Olivia Seay have closed their school and are at home. Rev. T. E. Higgs will have his rally at New Home Baptist church Sunday.

McKee is repairing his residence. The 20 Amuser Club met with Lu-cile Alexander last week. A two-course luncheon was served. Mr. Willie Stoner has returned from Wichita Falls.

The Bazaar given at the Baptist church Thursday night by the 21 Marshalneil Club was a swell affair. Mr. Turner Nelson has returned from Jefferson. A fine girl is stopping at Mrs. Ma-linda Higgs since the 4th of May.

The rally at Bethlehem Baptist church Sunday was a financial success; $70.00 was raised. Services were i good at all the churches Sunday. Quite a crowd of Bonhamites was in Honey Grove Sunday to attend Holiness meeting. Miss Carrie Seay has been re-elected toOeach in the city school at Gainesville with a raise in salary. HENDERSON.

Calhoun, general secretary of Ep-worth League, passed through this city May 17th, enroute to Mt. Enterprise. Dates in this district: Monday; Center, Tuesday; Wylie Chapel Wednesday; Mt. Mariah, Thursday; Henderson, Friday. Dr.

Calhoun has taken one year subscription with the agent; also said when he returned to his home in Pine Bluff, that he would have his daughter become an agent for the Dallas Express. Mrs. Mattie Hall, a citizen of this place, a mother, two children, a boy and a girl. She was a Christian woman of rare attainments, of sweet disposition, lived honored and respected by both white and black. She passed two years in bad health.

All her children died a few years back. On May 17th, 1919, that immortal spirit soared away to the plain and joined the union of her loved ones that sleep in Christ. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hark on the 12th inst, a fine girl.

Mother and child are well at present. Mrs. Monnie Lee went to Tyler to attend Texas College ommencement last week. Mr. James Holliman received a telegram of death of his brother in Nashville, Tenn.

He was 80 years old. Mrs. Matilda and Miss Bennie Vene-son were the guests of Mrs. Bob Dans-by a few days. Mrs.

Mattie Jones, Mrs. C. L. Alexander and Mrs. McClendon went to Tyler this week.

Miss Bonnie Montgomery returned home Sunday from a ten days trip of pleasure. Church Note. Rev. John Dodd of Tyler was at his post Sunday with Hebron church. Excellent service.

W. J. Moore of Knoxville, has joined us to do community service. We welcome Professor Moore. Lawyer Crmpbell of San Antonio was with us a short while.

He left for Austin last Sunday night. Central City Lodge K. of P. will celebrate their 19th anniversary ban- uet at Taborian Park Saturday, May 24. Lawyer Evans spota to a crowded house on the amendment "Prohibition." Friends and acquaintances of Mrs.

Kealing attended the funeral of her husiband, Dr. Kealing, and daughter, Miss Goldie. Interment at Greenwood cemetery. Mr. C.

A. Frunklin, editor "The Call," and Miss Luana Sha accompanied Mrs. Kealing from Kansas City. From Austin came Mr. and Mrs.

Shaw, parents of Mrs. Kealing; also A. Shaw, a brother. A brother, Mr. Shaw from Philadelphia, and Miss Lizzie Anderson from Austin.

Our sympathy goes oat to them in this hour of sadness. All services were well attended last Sunday. Miss Thompson is stopping with Mrs. W. D.

Cain. She is hoping to leave soon for eastern and northern points. The Union picnic was postponed on account of rain. Dr. Spiller is seen with his new red Buick.

It is magnificent Dock Johnson, of Sunnysid was a pleasant visitor. He left for Mar-lin. Mr. Brown is now a resident of the city. He was formerly of Sunnyside, Texas.

Dr. H. L. Smith and family are res idents of the east side. Games between Waco Black Naviga tors and the Fort Worth Wonders Sun-Hay and Monday.

Sunday school was well atten3ed. Much Interest was manifested among the young people. At 11 a. the pastor took hia stand the house was crowded of which all seemed to have enjoyed the sermon. After which open con fessions were made by several.

At 3:00 p. the Ancient Oiler of Pilgrims celebrated their anniversary Thanksgiving exercise which was excellent Dr. S. Montgomery delivered their sermon, seemingly it touched all who were present Services for Sunday night was good three members were added to the church after which the church was entertained for a few by Mr. Dennis Llttlejohn, an over sea soldier which was very Interesting.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Denton and Mr. Will Denton of Paris accompanied their cousins, Mr. and Mrs.

Louyia Smith, home after their visit here. The big meeting in progress at Bethlehem Baptist assisted by Rev. P. Johnson oi Greenville, closed the night of the 16th. Mr.

Richard Hamilton underwent a successful operation for appendicitis at St. Vinent's Sanitarium. Mr. James (Bill Lang) Coleman has been honorably disharged from Camp Travis. Rev.

He was highly respected citizen of city, and well loved by all. His son, Mr. Henry Hadley, of Shawnee, attended. Mr. Dan Childs had charge of remains.

Master "Teddy" Lawrence, who a few days ago sustained some slis injuries by being hit by Mr. Frank Rob-inon's service car, is convalescing. Mr. John Royster, now of Oklahoma City, arrived too late to attend his stepfather's funeral, Mr. Henry Hadley.
