(Courier-Times Photo) By BILL WINTERS Courier-Times City Editor Liza Minelli, progency of a famous mother, made her debut in a straight role at the Bucks County Playhouse last night and proved to be a charmer in the title role of Out For Liza, the daughter of Judy Garland, has a romp as a hoyden sophomore who goes out for the high school football team.

Chester Morris, who has proven himself so often that he needs no adjectives, portrays the besieged father of three girls, 18, 16 and 14. As a staid, respected small town banker Howard Carroll, he suffers hoof in the mouth disease everytime he makes a speech. His talk before the high school assembly urging equality for the girls spurs Liza, his youngest daughter, to go out for the team. New Life Excellent casting which has marked the Bucks Playhouse productions this year breathes new life and fire into the 14- year-old Broadway hit. Backing up the two principals are Kate Morris, Ann Mitchess Mitchell, Beret Arcaya, Pat McMurray, Tom Ligon, Chuck Jones, Richard Marr and Henry Oliver.

Kate Morris gives a stellar performance as the sympathetic maid who becomes an avid football fan when Ginger makes the team. Tom Ligon as the oldest girl's boyfriend brings down the house with his scene as the top athlete and big man on campus. It all adds up to an evening of clean, spirited fun that can be recommended heartily for the entire family. The comedy will continue for two weeks at the Playhouse. Television In Review In-Person Performers Score Well On Video By RICK DU BROW United Press International HOLLYWOOD enthusiastic friend of ours called us not long ago from Nevada at two in the morning to rave about an Andy Griffith nightclub act he had seen.

Our friend is not as good a friend as he was before, but his surprise at in-person performance is an interesting example of how televiewers tend to forget where many EWING DRIVE-IN tRosrecT. st i block Off OLDIN, TRENTON video stars came from. Griffith, for instance made his name on the stage in Time For and, in addition, is an accomplished monologist. Danny Thomas, to take another example, has no peer as a nightclub storyteller, and those who remember his early days in Chicago can honestly say they knew a tremendous star was being shaped, television or no. If the contract is safe, they just pay no attention at all to the play. South won the first trick with dummy's ace of spades and promptly discarded a club on the king of spades. Then he played three rounds of trumps and finally paused a second for station identification.

Then he remarked, contract is safe, but 1 might as well try to make an extra His remark was reasonable, but his method of trying for that extra trick ratner unfortunate. He led another trump in order to get to dummy and then proceeded to lead a diamond to his king. West won the ace and from this point on South had no play for more than eight tricks. He had to lose four diamonds and a club. If South had really thought things over at the time he was busy talking, he would have led a diamond from his hand and repeated the process each time he gained the lead.

This would have insured at least one overtrick since he would have been able to ruff one diamond with fourth trump. Actually he would have made two over tricks because the ace of dia monds would have appeared on the third diamond lead. bidding has been: North East Sooth West 1 Pass 1 pass IV Pass You, South, hold: 5 6 What do you do now? one or two spades.
