operators of the Buck Theatre in reply to one last week by motion picture operators It follows: Regardless of the fact the Buck Theatre has had union operators for thirty years the present management never entered into a contract with them for their services in fact we refused to sign a contract with them when we took over They had a man in the booth at the time and so long as the theatre was doing sufficient business to pay them their scale we kept him However when business fell off last year to where their demands amounted to 47 per cent of the box office receipts and they refused to work for what the theatre could afford to pay we told them to take their man out They were wrong when they stated we hired Keeslei' personnel to take their place as we did not put one Keesler person on our pay roll We put our youngest son in the booth as operator and kept the non-union man that worked for the union man we had as he agreed to work for what-we could afford to pay He only works two or three days per week in order to give our son a rest as he is going to Biloxi High We did call in a friend from the Air Force to check our booth after the union man left and he found any number of things wrong that did not exist while the union man was in The union went to a lot of trouble going to Keesler authorities and tlvr-y almost got our friend in a lot of trouble However we were able to have him exonerated front the charges against him after we explained things to the proper au thorities They have a lot of gall talking about or the holding of two jobs by one man The union man -we had did plumbing work by day another one of their men drives a cab and another one has a plumbing supply business and I am sure if each and ever one of them was investigated you would find others taking the job of another man They say they obtained th 1 first objective but not by their efforts or tactics as we would not have given in to them in the next 100 years We wish to advise the public that our son is still the projectionest and will be as long as the theatre is open and we regret that the building is to be torn down It may be we may get another place on the Coast and the union will get out if in and it is too bad that more -businesses see the light and dispose of the union where they are asking too much for their services Jitney Jungle Store Opening The opening of the Jitney Jungle
