He would slow down the ball according to Dick article in a recent issue of The Sporting News By all means he would put the ball back where there could be a scientific where a 3 to 1 and 2 to 0 game would take the place of the lopsided contests now being waged in the majors "I think the home run should be eliminated It has become part of the game But I do say that something must be done to protect the Hornsby was quoted He added that "they tell us and I believe it that pitching it from 75 to 80 per cent of a ball game Then why should pitching be eliminated almost entirely in the interest of Now Joe McCarthy manager of the American League leading New York Yankees the outfit with that "Murders in the batting order comes out with a statement that the ball is ok In Daniel article in this edition of the Sportsing News McCarthy is quoted: is no difference between the two types of ball in the ma-iors no difference because we hit both balls in the All-Star game The trouble is not with the ball It lies in the pitching The old crop is wearing out fast New class pitchers are not developing fast enough to take up the slack The result is a lot of socking and easy run-making and a dearth of nine-inning Well this particular scribe know first-hand but it is my general opinion Hornsby may be right at that When the fine points of pitching are erased from the national pastime then it is time for somebody to do something even if they do it wrong But on the other hand as McCarthy says: Combs told me it was-the same way when he came up in 1924 The old stars were passing out' of
