on the House calendar ahead of our public building bill and it will require a suspension of the rub's to have the Charlotte bill considered at anything like an early day The only trouble now is to have th bill brought before the Ileu-e and when that is done I fell certain that it will pass without Neither inemlxr of the committee gave an opinion as to the probabilities of a Presidential veto but no such fate as th seems to be apprehended for the hill The report of the committee on the bill submitted by Mr I) Johnston is apjxnded in full: Charlotte is a rapidly growin place having nearly doubled its population in the last ten years It is the center of a large country trade and the converging point of six railroads and an important railroad center upon the great trunk line North and South About twenty mail trams arrive and depart from it daily and about fifty route agents and railroad postal clerks have trans actions in person with the postoflice at this point The building in which the jostoffice is now held is not only not tire-proof but inconveniently located and wholly inadequate to the needs of the public service Tbe bus ness of the internal revenue department which is large in this district the receipts tor the last year be ng $41)945508 also requires at point suitable apartments and offices The United States Ciicuit and District courts are held in this city twice a year and there is no building for the holding of the courts the preservation of the records or the use of the other officers of the government aforesaid The judicial circuit in which it is situated comprises fifty counties with a population in 1880 of 648 18S In addition to the above a recent report from the postmaster at Charlotte shows the money -order business as well as the postal receipts to be very large to-wit Total postal receipts for 18S3 $16-53932 total receipts and disbursements in the money-order department $10465939 The following extract is from a recent written statement made by Judge Bond who holds the United States Circuit Court at this place The county courthouse is so inconvenient that the last time I held court there I had to hold it in the room of the national bank Charlotte is one of the most flourishing towns in North Carolina The business of the court will constantly increase and the government should give it a postoffice with a courthouse under Federal control for the convenience of suitors the safetv of records and for postol HI Last Trip Over tli Frry Mr Simon Hager the keeper of Hager's ferry on the Catawba river died yesterday His serious
