Reid has had 14 years of teach, ing experience. He comes to Wellsville from Lyndon where he has taught for 11 years, serving as coach, then coach and prin. clpal, and principal the last two years. He had three years coach, ing experience at Spring Hill be. fore going to Lyndon.

Reid received his bachelors degree at Baker University and his masters degree from the Uni. versity of Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Reid have three children, Kathleen, 12; Mike, and Shannon, 3 months.

The family will move to Mrs. Dot Harrison's home on South Main. Rail Cuts Into Car George W. Coffel, escaped serious injury Thursday afternoon when his 1956 Chevrolet convertible struck a county bridge. Coffel was driving west on the John Brown highway SVz miles northwest of Lane.

He hit the bridge and was just missed by a concrete rail that went through the floor of the car, between his legs and under the seat. Coffel stated to sheriff's authorities that he was going down the hill and blinded by the sun. He said he went to the north side of the road and got into the gravel. Coffel said he could not pull back on the highway to avoid hitting the posts in front of the bridge and ran over two posts and broke off three concrete posts and railing on the bridge. Coffel was held in the car by a safety belt and suffered only a cut on the lip.

The car was considered a total loss. Sheriff's authorities made no charges in the accident. Tax Shares Sent Out Franklin County has received $10,599.61 as its quarterly share of the distribution of one million dollars by the state in gasoline taxes. The tax is distributed quarterly each Oct. 1, Jan.

1, April 1 and July 1. Cities within the state share $625,000 from the one-cent tax. Ottawa receives $4,415.76, Paola receives $1,893.03, Garnett receives $1,185.15, Wellsville receives $424.10, Pomona receives $219.28, Lane receives $121.56, and Williamsburg receives $103.58. Payment per capita in the cities is about 39 cents and is based on Jan. 1, 1963 enumeration by the State Board of Agriculture.

Man Charged Elmo L. Shepard Jr. 23, 717 E. llth, was charged with follow, ing too closely by police after an accident at 3:05 p.m. Thursday.

Shepard's car ran into the rear of a 1957 Mercury driven by Cecil S. Dunn, 61, Princeton. Dunn had stopped at a stoplight on the 200 block of S. Main. Damages to the grill, bumper, headlight and tailllght of the Shepard car were $38.34.

Dale Critser, chairman of the Kansas 4-H Foundation, for Franklin County's International Farm Youth Exchange student Jim Milliken. The 4-H clubs donated one dollar per member and Home Demonstration units and individuals helped with donations to raise the money.

Milliken is in the Philippines. Radio Group Takes Field The Chippewa Amateur Radio club will have its annual field day at Pomona Reservoir Saturday. The radio hams will set up three transmitters early Satur. day morning and begin trans, missions at 8 p.m. They hope to converse with operators in most of the 50 states and pick up some foreign countries.

The transmitters will be about 50 watts, according to Nancy Kendall, club secretary. Last year the club talked to Costa Ricans, Miss Kendall said. This is the third year for the field day, she added. The transmitters will be set up in the Wolf Creek area on the north side of the dam. Miss Kendall said that persons in the area are welcome to observe the club's activities.

m. Thursday in Ransom Memorial Hospital where she became a patient two days earlier. She had been in failing health two years. Services will be at 10 a. m.

Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of which she was a member. Rev. Robert Burger will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Hospital.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. to. day at Towner Chapel. Mrs.

Esquivel was born Dec. 8, 1889, at Cerda, Mexico. She was married to Emitero Esquivel who died in 1932 and had lived in Ottawa since 1922. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Anita PrietoandMrs.

Local Pitcher On Winning Team Gary Brock, Ottawa, is a relief pitcher for an Army team in Germany, which recently won the 1964 United States Army in Europe Area league baseball championship. County Refloors 7th Street Bridge The County Highway Depart, ment is reflooring the bridge crossing the Marias des Cygnes river mile east of Ottawa on 7th street. The reflooring project began yesterday and will take approx. imately 10 days to complete. Pvt. Johnson said basic train, ing for a WAC is the same as for a GI, except that women do not fire weapons. Wherther she will stay in the Army "depends on how the first three years go," she said. "But so far I like it." Fredeens Sell Store Fredeen's Shoe Store, 206 S. Main, has a new owner.

Paul Fredeen, 508 S. Elm, announced that William Clary of Parsons has purchased the store and will take over business soon. Fredeen, who has been in the shoe store business in Ottawa for about 30 years, said that sale included only the Ot. tawa store. No personnel changes were expected.

When asked what his plans were, Fredeen said he was "go. ing to get caught up on fish, ing and golf." The Fredeens are retiring. The new owner previously worked in a shoe store but this will be a new business for him.
