THE MONTREAL DAILY STAR, Quebec Govt. Official Dies J. Alex Brossard Was in 75th Year A funeral service will be held Monday at 8.30 a.m. at the St. Louis de France Parish Church for J.

Alex Brossard, of the Provincial Department of Revenue, who died suddenly yesterday in his 75th year. He lived 3483 Laval avenue. A native of Montreal, Mr. Brossard was the late Telesphore Brossard, former chief appraiser the Dominion of Canada tor dry goods. In 1902 he was appointed manager of the St.

Denis and Rachel street branch of the Montreal City and District Savings Bank, a position he held for many years before becoming associated with the Provincial Government. Mr. Brossara was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the association de la chorale of St. Louis de France Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Josette Mathieu, and a son, Major Jean Y.

Brossard, officer E.D., as- of sistant district records M.D. No. 4. Federation Founder Dies Mrs. Henri Gerin-Lajoie Was Well Known Here Mrs.

Henri Gerin-Lajoie, widow of the late Henri Gerin-Lajole, a former batonnier general of the Quebec Bar Association, died yesterday in her 78th year, Dame at the Institute of Notre du Bon Conseil. Mrs. Gerin-Lajoie was the daughter of the late Sir Alexander and Lady Lacoste and was widelyknown as the founder in 1907, of the National St. Jean Baptiste Federation. For more than 25 years she was its president.

For her charitable work, Mrs. Gerin-Lajoie was recognized by the Pope, from whom she received the Bene Merenti medal and by the St. Jean Baptiste Society. medal. She was also recognized by the French Government, which awarded her the Palms of the French Academy.

She is survived by her daughter, Rev. Mother Marie founder and superior-general of the Institute Notre Dame du Bon Conseil of Montreal, and three sons, Henri Gerin-Lajoie, K.C., Alexandre Gerin-Lajoie, K.C., and Dr. Leon Gerin-Lajoie, dent of the Canadian Medical Association. There are also her six sisters: Mrs. J.

P. Landry, Mrs. L. de G. Beaubien, Mrs.

Jules Duchastel de Montrouge, Mrs. A. M. Tessier, Mrs. Charles Fremont and Mrs.

J. H. Dansereau, and 14 grandchildren, Paul Gerin-Lajoie, Father Andre Gerin-Lajoie, S.J., Father Claude Gerin-Lajoie, O.S.B., Mrs. Jean Louis Leger, Mrs. Marcel Filion, and Marcel, Pierre, Yvette, Jean, Guy, Denyse, Helene, Michel, Marie Gerin-Lajole.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislas Church, St. Joseph boulevard east and de Lanaudiere street. Tribute Paid J.

0. Fortier C.P.R. Official Died Monday at Ottawa A service for J. O. Fortier, assistant superintendent Smith Falls division of the C.P.R., was held this morning at St.

Leon de Westmount Church. Mr. Fortier died in an Ottawa hospital on Monday his 56th year. Chief mourners included his wife, three daughters, Louise, Yolande and Andree: a son, Jean; a brother, Henri; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Morin, Mrs.

Cable)- -Death Wednesday of Professor Alfred Edward Taylor, one of Britain's leading philosophers and professor at McGill University from 1903 until 1908, was announced last night. He was 75. He was author of more than a score of works on philosophy, including "Plato and Thomas Hobbes," "Plato, The Man and His Work," "Socrates," and "Philosophical Studies." He was professor of moral philosophy at Edinburgh University from 1924 until 1941 and since 1941 had been professor emeritus of that university. Funeral Monday Mrs. Henry Hamilton Noted Charity Worker Dies Mrs. Henry Hamilton Was in Her 89th Year Mrs. Henry Hamilton, founder and director of L'Assistance Maternelle, whose charitable works were recognized by both the Pope and the King, died yesterday at the Sourdes-Muettes Institute, St. Denis street, in her 89th year.

She was the widow of Henry Hamilton, founder and general once well-known Hamilton department store. Born in Montreal, a daughter of John A. Leclerc, and Caroline Bertrand, Mrs. Hamilton was married in 1889. Her husband died in 1907.

Most of her life was devoted to charitable works. She was specially interested in institution, L'Assistance which Maternelle. The gives pre-natal and post-natal care to mothers, was highly approved by the late Msgr. Paul Bruchesi, Archbishop of Montreal, In 1927, Mrs. Hamilton was awarded the Bene Merenti Medal by Pope Pius XI, and was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire by The King in 1934.
