B4 The News Tribune Friday May 5 2000 Abortion rights group endorses Senn for US Senate a Cantwell says she did not have chance to interview for support Benton County Boundary Review nd Planning Commission will run for governor Seattle travel agent Ruth Bennett will run for lieutenant governor Tacoma attorney Richard Shepard will run for attorney general Management consultant Mih Hihn will run for insurance commissioner Steve Layman a zoologist and raptor expert from Clinton waa nominated for public lands commissioner Chris Caputo who ran unsuccessfully for the Metropolitan King County Council last year will run for state auditor Staff writer Beth Silver coven he is not responsible for everything in the judicial system But the nine members of the court have it within their power to focus attention to correct problems They have chosen not to do Schafer said Fm criticizing the leaders who are not addressing the problems and denying the existence of problems appropriate to challenge the highest Guy has said he will decide later this month whether to seek re-election Libertarian Party candidates The libertarian Party of Washington state has nominated a full slate of candidates for statewide office Steve LePage a West Richland real estate broker and member of the Schafer enters Judicial race Tacoma attorney Doug Schafer announced Thursday he will run for the Supreme Court seat held by Chief Justice Richard Guy Schafer 50 was the whistleblower in the case at former Pierce County Superior Court Judge Grant Anderson The Supreme Court removed Anderson from the bench for selling a deceased dienth bowling alley to a banker friend at a reduced price and accepting $31000 in car payments from the friend Guy has been considering leaving the bench But even if he runs for another six-year term Schafer said he will challenge him He said he believes Guy has ignored problems within the courts such as the Anderson case Cantwell announces Also on Thursday Cantwell formally announced her campaign for frie seat held by GOP Sen Slade Gorton For months last year Cantwell publicly considered a run Then in January she declared her candidacy and fital the papers with the Federal Election Commission Now her campaign says she's her campaign So what's the difference?
