College Looking For Old Books For Fall Course Knox College is looking for books from the middle 1800s to be used in a course this fall about Midwestern culture and history, according to Dr. Rodney Davis, associate professor of history and director of the college's Midwest Studies Institute. Davis said that books such as old hymnals or readers would be useful in the pilot course, "Utopian Vision and Current Reality in the Middle West." The course will be offered to Krox students, high school teachers and laymen on Saturdays during the 10-week fall term. It will center on the early development of the Midwest and the promise it held for settlers. The course will carry 3^ semester hours of credit. The pilot course was launched with a $24,554 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Davis said organizers of the course are especially interested in the how-to-make-it type of book which was popular during the 1800s and were largely responsible for the handsome farm homes often seen in rural JlJinoJs.
