Senator Sam Has 'Honest Eyebrows 9 By DICK WEST WASHINGTON (UPI)Thanks to the Watergate hearings, Sen. Sam J. Ervin Jr. is well on his way to becoming The Lighter Side an authentic American folk hero in the tradition of Dan'i Boone, Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan and Bobby Riggs. Sam Ervin Fan Clubs are sprouting up all across the KNOXVILLE "MONEY STORE"! July 20, 1973 Galesburg Register-Mail Raw Sugar and VUaralai Ifatural Foods, Oils, flours. Sold At... Btttt ft 230 E. Mala. XmoxrlUa land. "Senator Sam" sweatshirts, T-shirts, buttons and bumper stickers are appearing in increasing abundance. And even now, you may be sure, some country-western troubadour in Nashville is recording "The Ballad of Senator Sam." (Chorus: "Senator'Sam, Senator Sam — the greatest thing since country ham." Watch for it on next week's "top 40" list.) THANK YOU NOTE I wish to thank all who sent cards, letters & presents to me while I was in the Cottage Hospital. Thanks to nurse and doctor who took good care of me. Thanks again. MRS. EARL ORTERY 404 So. Main Street Abingdon, HI. Will success spoil Sam Ervin? Can a 76-year-old backwoods lawyer from North Carolina find happiness as a "pop" culture celebrity? Will Become Apparent The answers to such questions will become apparent in the days ahead. Meanwhile, it is easy to understand why Ervin is being lionized. In these days when the Liz Taylor-Richard Burton marriage is floundering, and the world seems fraught with uncertainties, many folks are desperately seeking something solid to cling to. Those who follow Watergate committee investigations have found a security symbol of sorts in the chairman's eyebrows. Galtiburi. 10.
