struck and killed by a Pierce Transit bus was at fault in the accident Ihcoma police said Fri- dDavid Paul Mesler 59 an activist for the disabled died early Thursday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from multiple injuries Police Capt Mike Darland said Mesler was illegally crossing Mildred Street about 80 feet north of the marked crosswalk at the South 19th Street intersection he said The bus driver never saw Mesler The driver a 15-year Pierce Transit employee was headed back to the bus station about 5:20 pm Wednesday The driver turned south onto Mildred Street from the Thcoma Community College TVansit Center then struck Mesler At first officers believe Mesler was seriously injured because he was conscious and talking after the accident But he was paralyzed from the waist down and didn't feel the pain Darland said Drug and alcohol tests on the driver were negative Pierce Transit spokeswoman Jean Jackman said Mesler a paraplegic was appointed by the City Council to sit joined the Allen AME Church in 1964 She was the director of the Gospel Choir and member of the Senior Chorus She belonged to the Ellen Kellum Missionary Society The Lay Organization and served on the Stewardess Board She was a life member of the Mary Church Terrell The American Legion 222 and the Eight and Forty Club She worked each year at trie Allen Food Bank and belonged to several bowling leagues' She is survived by her husband John Holliday Sr sons John Jr Andre and Munir daughters Millicent Sondra Carmen along with Tanya who preceded her in death sisters Clara Louise Helen and
