Mr. Editor. The eeisou though late has put new lite the old bud. The parched is now moist, the heated atmosphere ia now cool and pleasant ami every thing liiiha vivid ami nily. Farmers are at woik gathering in the cotton, tiifdintj oats, and breaking luml for wheat.

Farmers, Money-Machines, Etc. South Editor Gazette. We are having some very fine weutjier at this time (or picking cotton anl turning our land for seeding. Look which way you will you see pur farmers doing something in their field? We love to eee them stirring. Yet I inuVt say I do believe we have the poorest neighborhood in the county.

The people are almost too selfish to live. A few days ago a yonng mnn was trying to get up a writing school in our neighborhood and when the articles were presented to some of our farmers they would say, "another money-Oiachiue!" If liny would only think of "juouey. machines" when those men are traveling about over oor country selling waftluHj machines, poplin-silk dresses, etc. A few days ago one of my neighbors bought a sit handkerchief from a peddler and when it vfta washed it turned out to be cotton. Another them bought a poplin-silk dress and some other things amounting in all to ten aod tb whole is not worth five.

I believe he could have bought the lot from any or our merchants for we dollars or less. Tliit is the time our farineis ought to think of" uunejr-ma-cliines," aud not when we are trying to make up a school to benefit their children which might cause (hem to heaoiae I am sorry to say our farmers are not tak iug hold on education as they should. They are not looking forward for the time when, if we have no educators we will be almost cut off from society. Farmers you may think it noi so, but it is coming and that fast. So let us go to work and try to get up a good school in our neighborhood and employ a good teacher pnying him well; we ure able to do it, and why shall we not? Dui.cis Sudden Stops.

Some good men say they believe that some of the distillers wi I continue to manufacture corn iuto whisky if the poor widows and orphans should suff.T for bread.

Verily the lovs of money is the root of all evil. Refreshing rains have fallen within the last few days cooling the parched earth aod cheering the hearts of the farmers. The stock law is workiog adtnirubly in that portion of the county where it is iu force. The eounty commissioners cf Cleuvehmd have culled a meeting of the maszhtuU ofThrtt county lo consider the subject of reducing the tajf levy, in consequ. nce of shoit crops.
