Andres and daughter, Gridley Normal firemen called to car fire Normal firemen were called to two fires within an hour Thursday. Firemen extinguished a fire in a car owned by William Merna, Hudson, about 11:15 a.m. in the parking lot alongside The Garlic Press, 102 North Normal. Reports stated the fire began from a mechanical failure in a wheel area of the vehicle. DWIGHT (PNS)-No action was taken and no recommendations were made by the Dwight Planning Commission Thursday after a discussion of plans for a 24-unit development for the elderly and handicapped, with Ron Moline, Kankakee architect and developer.

The site being considered for the proposed development is along Washington Street between Williams Street on the north and Gooseberry Creek on the south. Moline said he was unaware that the site is in a flood plain and would look into zoning requirements for such an area. The site is toned Industrial and would have to be rezoned residential, calling for a public hearing, the commission said. Funding for the project would be Four injured in mishaps in Livingston FLANAGAN (PNS)-Four persons were injured in two accidents in Livingston County Thursday night and Friday, Livingston County sheriff's police said. Robert Gaither, 16, Flanagan, driver of a car, and his passenger, Ronnie Kinkade, 4, Manville, were injured when the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree rear Cornell Friday afternoon, police said.

Both were in satisfactory condition at I i. St. James Hospital, Pontiac, after the 2:15 p.m. accident a mile north of Illinois 23 and lMi miles west of Cornell. Gaither was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

In an earlier accident, a couple on a motorcycle was injured when their cycle was hit by a car about 10:20 p.m. Thursday 1 miles north of Flanagan. Police said a car driven by Greg Zimmerman, rural Flanagan, hit the cycle, which was stopped in the east-bound lane. David Heidenreich, 22, Flanagan, driver of the cycle, was in satisfactory condition at St. James and his passenger, Laurie Harris, 16, Pontiac, was in good condition Friday night.

Police said circumstances of the accident are still not clear. The driver of the car and his two passengers were not injured. rnnirliac tnxualc ''er snurcnes JOWe5 from clotheslines A thief who took a liking to linens pinned on two clotheslines at neighboring Normal residences overnight Thursday snatched the nine towels, Normal police said. Two beach towels were stolen from the yard at the Joan Peterson residence, 1108 Valentine Drive, and seven bath towels from the clothesline at the home of Mrs. John Williams, 1200 Valentine Drive, police said.

There was no value estimated on the stolen goods. Caroline Kuhar MORTON (PNS)-Caroline Kuhar, 91, East Peoria, died at 5 a.m. Friday at Richwoods Terrace Nursing Home, Peoria. She had been a patient there since 1974. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, East Peoria, the Rev. Warren Ueckert officiating. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery, Morton. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.

Sunday at Ludwig Mortuary, Morton, and from an hour before the service at the church Monday. She was born Aug. 9, 1886, at Wurtt- temburg, Germany, a daughter of Got tlieb and Caroline Leihenseder Luhenseder. She married George Kuhar in February 1909. at Peoria.

He died Oct. 2, 1949. Surviving are two daughters, Louise Mueller, and Elizabeth Donath, both of East Peoria; two sons, William, Peoria, and George, Chicago; seven grand children; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, both of Germany. Two daughters and nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She was a member of St.

Peter's Lutheran Church, East Peoria, the Royal Neighbors of America. Memorials may be made to the church memorial fund. George Bailey SHIRLEY-George A. Bailey, 59, died at 9:02 a.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Metzler Memorial Home, Blooming-ton. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from one hour before the funeral Monday at the memorial home. Mr.

Bailey was born on July 21, 1918, at Springfield, a son of William A. and Edith Harnett Bailey. He married Norma Jean Barton on March 16. 1946, at Springfield. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, James Lee Bailey, Neillsville, Wis: one daughter, Georgia Ann Bremner, 707 W. Front Bloomington; one brother, William H. Bailey, Springfield, and two grandsons. His parents preceded him in death. Mr.

Bailey, a certified public accountant with Illinois Agricultural Association for 35 years, retired in January. He was a member and past president of the National Society of Accountants and was a member and treasurer of the Corn Belt Kennel Club. Mr. Bailey was also a veteran of World War II and a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, Springfield. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund.

gpQ (Jlrich DWIGHT (PNS)-Lena Ulrich, 89, of 212 E. James St. died at 4 a.m. Friday at her home after a long illness. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m.

Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Merrill Wetzstein officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery, Cabery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at VonQualen Funeral Home, and from an hour before the service Monday at the church.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1888, in Nevada Township, a daughter of Andrew and Lizzie Lorey Drechsel. She married Gustave Ulrich on Dec. 10, 1913, at Dwight. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy and Violet Ulrich, both of Dwight. A sister and three brothers preceded her in death. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Former Fairbury man found dead FAIRBURY Wayne Schmidtgall, 25, formerly of Fairbury, was found dead at 5:45 p.m. Friday in the prison hospital of Menard Correctional Center, Chester.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 o'clock tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Dr. Manners at Loyola University, Chicago. $6,000 truck blaze blamed on arson Fire in a pickup truck owned by Joe D. Mann, 917 W.

Jefferson caused $6,000 damage at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Bloomington police said. The truck was parked in front of 913 W. Jefferson police said. When they arrived at the scene, the truck cab was engulfed in flames, Bloomington firemen said.

Firemen notified police when they found a wing-vent window on the ground beside the truck and the contents of the glove compartment emptied onto the street, firemen said. It took about 30 minutes to extinquish the blaze, believed to have been set, firemen said. Reports stated the building was forcibly entered. Tools, valued at $200, were stolen between June 7 and Thursday from a car owned by Loren Konnick, 83 Southgate Estates, while the vehicle was parked at the Konnick residence, police said. Konnick reported the tools were left in the car while it was being worked on by his son. A self-employed carpenter, Mr. Burns was a World War II veteran and a member of American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. William Stewart William P. Stewart, 59, of 806 E. Walnut St.

died at 1:40 p.m. Friday at Mennonite Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday. He had been ill several years. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Beck Memorial Home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Rosine, a son of Searcy and Pearl Allen Stewart.
