February 14,1956 Social Club Of Portland Twp. Met At Nelsons Portland — The Pour Corner Social .Club' of Portland met Tuesday:-afternoon,'Feb. 7, at the home of Mrs Verle Nelson. Mrs Lewis i Larsen. substituted for Mrs Glen L&rsen, as assistant hostess. Ten members answered roll call: Mrs W, J, Stewart, Mrs Lloyd Bartlett, Mrs Dbfiald Ringsdorf, Mrs Elwood Nelson, Mrs Bernard Phelps, Mrs Lewis Larsen, Mrs Herbert Nelson, Mrs Verle Nelson. Mrs Ted Rike and Mrs Victor Fitch, it was decided that all 'club members would send Elsie Moore a birthday card. Her birthday is February 23. The Club will also remember Mr and Mrs Charles PheJps with a card on their 61st wedding anniversary which is Feb. 27. At the close of the, meeting a delicious lunch was served by the hostesses, Farm Bureau Meeting ' The Portland Township Farm Bureau met Wednesday night, Feb. 8, at the home of Mr and Mrs Sumner Parsons. Program Chairman was Herb Weydeft. Dean Barnes was guest speaker with the topic "Farnj OtitlooH", Mrs Donald Patterson was music sponsor. Barbara Dremmelj Maty Keith, Sheryl Smith and Pamela Andrews played two numbers on their hbrns and Sheryl a piajjo solo. Mrs 'Victor Fitch had tnt surprise numbers at which time Mrs C. L. Young showed some very beautiful scenery pictures taken on their trip to Michigan About 30 members were presenl at the meeting. A delicious lunch was served by the lunch committee, the Bob Harveys, J. H. Zankes, Earl Zwiefels and Stanley Larsens. Nelson spent Monday at the home of Mrs Henry< Nelson. The ladies spent the afternoon quilting. Mrs Ray Fitch visited Mrs Ray McWhorter Tuesday afternoon. Mrs S. R. Parson's father, Mr D. W. Smith, returned last week Friday from San Antonio, Texas, where he spent three weeks with his granddaughter, Mrs John OHveria, daughter of Mr and Mrs Parson. Mr and Mrs Herbert Nelson and Randy, Mr and Mrs Henry Nelson and Mrs Mary Michaelsen went to Forest City Thursday for the Declamatory Contest. Linda Nelson and Sharon Carroll took part in the contest. Mrs Ray Fitch visited her father, Charles E. Clark who is spending some time with a granddaughter and husband, Mr and Mrs Lester Gayken at Britt. She also visited her sister, Mft Harold Stevensen at Britt. Degen, recent Algona newlyweds, arc shown in the above photo. The new Mrs Degen is the former Anita Marie Simons, daughter of Mr and Mrs George L. Simons, Algona, and Mr Degen is the son of Mrs Elizabeth Degen, also of Algona. They were married Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, with Msgr. P. P. Gearen officiating. Mrs Degan graduated from Algona high school and is employed as a secretary there. The bridegroom is a graduate of Granville high school and is employed by HJverds Bros. Construction Co.
