time for games Where those ticket holders were Gutherie doesn't know a good question" she said teams coming in were really impressed with our facilities Stadium Bowl is far superior to the Dome The field is absolutely superb and the setting is Yet no one came to watch a team that comp a combined 3-18 record In the two years the chise was based in Seattle and Tacoma But even with Friday's developments Gutherie and Corbin have hope that the Express can be resurrected the league looks solid at the end of the season we may approach potential Tacoma investors and see if they're interested in operating next said Corbin who is trying to place Express players with other teams would love for the Express to come back" Guthrie said was our ultimate goal to get local investors The Tacoma Express got derailed Friday morning probably permanently In a statement made at 10:30 am Friday Express general manager Bob Corbin announced that the team would cease operations officially Corbin said "The league (Minor League Football System) pulled the rug from under us" The league pulled out after having made a commitment to keep the franchise afloat at least through the end of the season even if no local investors could be found This week the MLFS changed that decision said Judie Guthrie the team's public relations director The demise really began in July The Express welcomed a Soviet team into the Tacoma Dome for an exhibition game The occasion marked the first time a Soviet team had played in the United States But the Tacoma team took heavy losses on the game The exhibition won by Tacoma 32-0 was Included in the some 600 season tickets sold but the remainder of interested fans had to pay 13350 a seat Only 1303 showed up and that financial disaster led directly to the Express going bankrupt The team was taken away from then-owner Worth Skinner who received all funds from the season tickets Guthrie said The league took over operations and to date has put 130000 into operating the Express disappointed because the league had committed to us that they would finish out the season" Guthrie said "We had four games left and three were on the road With the cost of getting people to away games the league felt It was taking away from the other Guthrie said she had taken numerous calls Friday afternoon from people wondering when the next home game would be how
