108 acres of state trust land for parks and recreational uses -The Peninsula Parks and Recreation Board met June 85 to discuss ways to furnish the district with Its first parks and recreational areas to oversee The district has no funds because voters have rejected all of its proposed bond issues and special levies The park board is focusing on a tract of state institutional trust land near the The scholarships authorized by the Legislature come in the form of tuition waivers for the 1990-91 school year The Key Peninsula Park District is offering Summer Fun 1990 a program of games crafts and physical activity for children ages 5 to 11 at the civic center in Vaughn Thepro- Esm is offered Mondays through Fri-ys through Aug 24 Cost is $5 per week for each three-hour session Additionally hit-and-run trial of a Gig Harbor man that was set to begin June 27 has been postponed The attorney of Samuel Baderdeen obtained a continuance in the trial which now is planned for Sept 5 said Ed Murphy the Pierce County prosecutor handling case The trial which will take place in Pierce County Superior Court at County-City Building is expected to last between four and five days The time of the trial be set until a judge is assigned to the case Washington State Patrol reported Baderdeen crossed the highway's center line and smashed into Johnson's vehicle according to the State Patrol Paramedics run charge was based on suspicion that who arrived at the scene spoke with John-Baderdeen was intoxicated at the time of son and Baderdeen according to documents the accident filed in Pierce County Superior Court But Baderdeen pleaded innocent to all three charges at his arraignment April 30 He was convicted in May on previous charges of reckless driving and driving while intoxicated Those charges stemmed from two separate Incidents in 1988 Johnson 36 died at Tacoma General Hospital 214 hours after the 9:50 pm head-on collision April 27 on Washington 302 about a mile west of Purdy in Wauna the confident his group will find enough willing signers from the 24000 University Place residents who live in the proposed annexation area The law requires the petitioners to get 929 signatures a figure equal to 10 percent of voters in the last election but Zelazny said the group plans to get about 1500 just to be sure University Place has been headed toward a change in status for a long time but the option of annexation to Fircrest has only recently gained favor among University University Place starts signature drive By JMLoovy The News Tribune' University Place activists have prepared an annexation petition asking Fircrest to absorb their huge unincorporated suburb They aim to start collecting signatures Aug City Council members in Fircrest population 5700 have done little to prepare themselves for the arrival of the annexation petition from bordering University Place an unincorporated Pierce County suburb more than four times the size of the city But a citizens group has been formed recently to study annexation questions according to Fircrest Mayor Armand YapacMno who added that the council probably wont formally discuss the issue until the petition becomes a reality Petition organizer Joe Zelazny seemoyi 1 and say they will present a complete petition to the Fircrest City Council by Sept 1 If they succeed in turning in a valid petition It may be
