tinct from any other branch of dressmak ing In almost every city one of more establishments are given over cloth ing the youngest gen eration and many a clever needlewoman has found the way not only tn a liveli hood but to a Substantial prosperity by designing and making clothes for little Unless one can make her small daugh ters clothes she is confronted by an ex penfalx problem if she wishes to have the latest and most approved garments for clothes are undeniably ex pertsive if one desires material and smart ness ortunately simplicity is the aim of the best designers and it is possible to make Riinunts with the aid or a seamstress which if bought ready made or if pro cured through a specialty shop would cost a pretty penny The child of today is picturesque Old prints must have furnished the inspira tion for many of the newest frocks and suits Look over tho pictures of some of the Dickens children and you will see the pattern for the most approved school suit for the modern small boy Model 6 Varied There is a straight little blouse cut witn scarcely a bit of fullness with the plain little knee length trousers but toned to it at the waist line lhere are variations of this model or every day wear the suit is made of some of the heavy suitings which are washable or the street the trousers are often of corduroy and the blouse of some washable fabric ss linen or tub silk and for ceremonious occasions the blouse is made of white washable silk or satin with lace frills at the wrists and collar and with trousers of heavy ribbed silk bengaline being a favorite weave Coats for wear over these suits are smart tweed affairs or Russian blouse effects in corduroy They usually button close at the neck and nave the slightly lowered belt The boys have been wearing funny little peasant like costumes which I am told will be more used for the sum mer as they are so simple so easily ad justed and so comfortable These are quite straight and reach the knees The trousers which may match or be of con trasting material as striped trousers with a plain outer garment are fastened to tile under waist The frocks for the little girl are just as simple in lines The straight effect is retained and the snsh is as often at the regulation waist line as it is applied nearly to the knees which has been the accepted belt line or the young girl 7 or 8 years old there is a noticeable brevity of skirt and the coats are usually the same length as the frock When they have the banding of fur the effect is quaint and attractive Kimono Sleeve Popular The kimono sleeve is used in nearly ail the dresses for the small lady Serge seems the approved material for the street dress I have seen an attempt to introduce the suit style in some of tho best and newest of the spring clothes and it is most attractive and would surely please the wearer In several models there was a skirt short and scant a wide soft sash and an Eton coat made quite loose Underneath was a blouse of batiste The sash frequently becomes part of the frock and fasten at the side On the very best of the lingerie frocks there is sometimes an appearance of the smocking which was once so fashionable as adornment When the low belt is chosen the skirt is frequently merely one or two little ruffles of silk contrasting with the serge of the frock These ruffles are plaid if the serge is plain While the frocks are simple there is the finish which bespeaks skill There is the same demand for style in the clothes for the child of today as for his parents and youthful eyes are wonder fully critical in detecting flaws in the garments of their companions As for their own appnrcl children seem to have a most uncanny idea of what is right and fitting which surprises the on looker who has no children for whom to buy raiment Various Social Affairs MR AND MRS MARK PA will entertain with an informal musicale Thursday evening at their home 2254 Park avenue for Mr and Mrs Albert Ottinger who were married recently Mrs
