Either way the Seahawks and Broncos are billed today in Mile High Stadium (1 PST kickoff) after eight weeks of Idleness because of the NFL players' strike The appetizer for football-starved fans will be served up on Channel 5 and Radio KIRO Those who have been waiting Ktiently and impatiently the NFL to resume play should sit back and enjoy today's action There could be more this season There might not be The players have yet to ratify the tentative agreement which was reached last week The vote is scheduled for Tuesday and it figures to be close There have been growing signs id discontent And this is what makes it interesting: The players become fully vested for the year In the pension plan after three games They have played two This then is No 1 Would they be so sneaky as to the three games get vested the pension plan and then decide to heck with the rest of the season? They really probably couldn't afford it but It is something to think about especially if they are not happy with the last management offer Despite what might happen on Tuesday the Seahawks and Broncos will have at it this afternoon The quality of football to be played will be suspect but there should be some running blocking passing and tackling Both teams returned to the practice field Wednesday and that much time to get ready averaged 37 yards per carry and Sherman Smith 30 in '81 their TNTFFL numbers were 36 and 31 respectively There are several other statis tical tidbits pointing up the parity between the 1981 Has iwks and those of the TNTFFL So how do you account for the relative success of the 4-5 fantasy Hawks and the those 6-10 Birds of last year? In a word passing In two words deep pausing While Zorn had his problems with Inconsistency in the Fanta-sy League and although his 571 TNTFFL completion percentage was down a few fractions from his career-best 594 of last year his yards-per-completion rate for the two games under Patera Then too Edwin Bailey has returned to guard after having played tackle In the first two The return of Ron Essink who had been missing because of a bone spur in his foot made it possible for Bailey to return to his more comfortable guard position The other major change In the starting lineup finds David Clearly the flesh-and-blood Hawks are going to have a tough time beating the 4-1 fantasy record since they're resuming the NFL season at 0-2 Picking up where the real Hawks left off In the third game the TNTFFL Hawks in order beat New England 20-13 lost to Kansas City 34-30 were blown out by San Diego 45-19 lost to the LA Raiders 29-24 were blown out again by San Diego 40-10 avenged the Kansas City loss 20-10 were destroyed by Denver 38-9 outlasted SL Louis 17-9 and got back at the Broncos in yesterday's 14-13 thriller Some interesting numbers developed from all this bearing in mind that the APBA board game used by the TNTFFL Is based on statistical results from the 1981 In 1981 the Seattle defense allowed 243 points and 3713 yards per game the Fantasy League figures were 258 ana 3753 In 1981 the Seahawk rushing game accounted for 998 yards per game and 36 per carry in the Fantasy League it was 941 and 34 Individually Theotia Brown with the Seahawks says things won't be too much different than they were under Patera "To change a system In three days would be ridiculous" McCormack said most subtle changes have been in philosophy" There have been a few more changes than that however Jim Zorn is back in his usual role as the starting quarterback after Dave Krieg had been No 1 Giants Baltimore at the New York Jets Cincinnati at Philadelphia Kansas City at New Orleans the Los Angeles Rams at Atlanta Minnesota vs Green Bay at Milwaukee New England at Cleveland and Tampa Bay at Dallas along with Seattle at Denver Tomorrow night the Raiders make their home debut in Los Angeles facing San Diego The Dolphins-Bills game is the only matchup of two unbeaten teams and Buffalo guard Reggie McKenzie says he and his teammates already have put the strike and thoughts of next week's ratification vote on the back thinking about now is he said "We're 2-0 and 2-0 and it's a first-place battle As far as that other stuff we'll Just put that aside until Tuesday" Here it is mid-November already and still UUol 111 Editor1! Seahawks but going to be a tough act to follow While the for-real Seahawks shake off the cobwebs and resume NFL play in Denver today the TNTFFL Hawks wrapped up their campaign In electric fashion against the Broncos yesterday getting a miracle 53-yard Jim Zorn to Steve Largent touchdown pass on a fourth-end-12 play with 1:30 remaining in the game for a wild 14-13 victory That closed the books on a TNTFFL season that saw the Seahawks win four of nine games Including three of the last four The original fantasy plan was Seattle games to play only the scheduled while the strike was on But when it developed that the real Hawks would be playing fantasy a nine-game season the fantasy Hawks went ahead with the Denver game since it would be their ninth game and would provide a basis for comparison for a game after eight weeks of quiet time The Seahawks will be under a new coach Mike McCormack who was called from his duties as director of football operations after Jack Patera Joined the ranks of the unemployed McCormack who had served as head coach of the Baltimore Colts and Philadelphia Eagles before taking over in the interim role game seasons of the World War II era Followed by a 16-team playoff field the most In the league's history The berths go to the top eight teams in each conference with division standings thrown out Maybe If There's still one little catch: the 1500 rank-and-file members of the players' union must vote on Tuesday to ratify the agreement the player representatives accepted unenthusiastically last week There have been enough grumblings about the agreement to suggest the vote might be close Stranger things have happened Anyway today's resumed Ehedule has schedule has Miami at Buffalo Detroit at Chicago Pittsburgh at Houston San Francisco at SL
