Thursday morning four of Hutla'id's enterprising young men, viz: Charley Wood, Bill Lyons and brother, and Bill Smith, alias Sc.ir Faced Jack, went to tho 6lable of George Hichardsou, on Wales street, and hired his hack nnd two horses for the purpose of nttcndiiig the fair at Brandon. Before they arrived there everybody was sober, neither was there a place where intoxicating liquors could bo procured. Soon it became known that liquor was for sale somewhere aud examples of its doings wcro frequently seen. Examination into the affair showed that the liquor came from tho Hutland carriaga. Constablo H.

S. Buttcs was called to the scene, aud the carriage, 03 well as tho pockets of Eomo of tho persons In it wcro found to be well supplied with pint bottles full of the anient, which they were retailing for the small sum of a dollar a bottle, water thrown in. As matter of course the citizens of Brandon wcro indignant that none of their own people wcro allowed to sell while outsiders were doing a rushing business. As a natural consequence an arrest was made and Charley Wood was tlio victim. For two hours he languished in tho Brandon Lockup, when after earnest protestations that ho was not the guilty party, ho was released on 8100 bail being furnished for lib appearance nt a future day.

Charley being released, tho party soon after started for home, where they arrived about half past eleven at night, no compllshmcnts lir every particular. His first solo, "Wake, lady, wake," was sung with an exqulsltcness that Hirlllcd the lis tener. voice is very sweet, and withal comes forth with distinctness very sel Join heard from any singer. His manners upon the stage nru those of one who must have spent a lifetime In its tervice. Ill bolo "Lovo's cruel durt" was icndeied with much spirit, and elicited rapturous ap plausc.

His acting in tlio sccno whcio lie fulls into a swoon from the drinking of tlio wine was capital. Ho uns greeted with nninerouf bouquets upon Ids first nr pcarnnec after emerging from the basket, and his cntho reception from tlio nudlcuco may bo considered nothing less than an ovation of tho most complimentary char, ncter The character of "Inez" as taken by Miss Hnttle Edsou, was made one of the most conspicuous and chaining of theentliecast. Her nichence upon the singe, hi whatever sccno she appealed, was made peculiarly noticeable by her admirable acting. Shu was, next to Don Cailos, tho center of nt traction, and when the role of Inez Is con sldercd as somewhat thankless part. It Is much to her credit that such was tl! case.

Her costume mav first bo considered as greatly In her favor, to say nothing of her sprightly and prepossessing personal quah tics, while her thorough identification with the character which sho so admirably bus. tallied made it one of the most prominent feature? of the opera. Then her voice, always good, was shown to gicat advantage in her flrs-t solo, which received nn enthusiastic meed ot applause, and very handsome lioquct was sent her from the audience. In fact her singing and ncting throughout was one of tho most pleasing features of tho evening's entertainment. Miss Olmsted sustained tlio part of Isabella with great acceptance.

Her voice proved somewhat light in comparison to the orchestra in some passages, while her solo, "Ho still was there" is one of the choicest bits nf Hue music to be found in the opera. She was also complimented with a beautiful hoquct from some admirer. Mrs. Ilalbert as "Donna Lucrczla" was a trille indistinct in her rendering of the solo, "Knight of Alcantara," and a little too liable to drop from the key. Her mnnneis upon tho stage were, however, excellent, and she filled tho pnit with grace rarely seen upon tlio amateur stage.

Her voice is quite good on tlio medium register, but is wcro thought by them to bo in liccdtif something after that sort and a tour was made to their several rctpcotlvo places or abode. Songs from tho "Arlon" were heard upon the midnight nlr while tlio moon brightly beamed above, and tho heroines of tho evening wcro made tho especial nttdltors thereof. Tho night was ouo befitting tho service of song, nnd tho fingers ccrlatiilycnjoycd it gicatly. West, Cottage, Grove, Main nnd Washington streets were visited, and merrily tho hours went by, while musiclnspired tho heart and guided tho way.
