Cuff Sfuff odoy- Hospital AdmfMfcw Because business was so good, Mrs. A. F. Rice, 617 E. Elm, had to get seven substitute' Christmas presents.

She began making small dogs from crochet yarn as a pastime after doctors told her to "take it essy" because of a heart ailment She planned to make seven of the dogs, one for each of her daughters and daughters- in-law. But word got around about the dogs and friends and neighbors began buying a few for presents. Mrs. Rice kept making them, and at last count, had turned out more than 50. Sales were so good, in fact, she inadvertantly sold the seven reserved for her family.

A group of Salina youngsters tried to mix sledding and fire The mix wasn't a success. The youngsters were sledding on the hill along the 81 bypass between Ash and Park streets. In place of snow they used the long grass on the hill and in place of sleds they used large pieces of heavy cardboard. As the novelty of snowless sledding wore off, the kids started setting small patches of grass afire and sliding through the fires. But the small fires became bigger and bigger.

And the youngsters got scared.
