FIRST EDITION Feb. 24, 1995 THE PANTAGRAPH, Friday, DEATHS Central Illinois Cecil F. Eyrse LINCOLN Cecil Franklin Eyrse, 87, of Lincoln, a retired auto supply store employee, died at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 22, 1995) at St.

Clara's Manor, Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, the Rev. Gaylord Buss officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Eyrse was born June 12, 1907, in San Jose, a son of James and Kitty Connett Eyrse. He married Edith Parr Sept.

29, 1927, in Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Lewis, Hartsburg, and Richard, Merkel, Texas; one daughter, Nelda a Aherin, Farmersville; 15. grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 20 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mr. Eyrse was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lincoln, the Sheriff's Posse and Kickapoo Saddle Club. He worked in the parts department of Sheers Auto Supply in Lincoln until he retired in 1973. Mr. Eyrse was known for leading area parades carrying the American flag with his horse Dusty.

He also rode Dusty at the Logan County Fair at the beginning of horse races and at each night's performance, holding the flag while the National Anthem was sung. Memorials may be made to his church or to St. Jude's Research Foundation. Minnie Guffey CLINTON Minnie L. Guffey, 91, of Danville, a Clinton native, died at 3:20 p.m.

Thursday (Feb. 23, 1995) at United Samaritan Hospital, Danville. Arrangements are incomplete at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Barbara McLaughlin DELAVAN Barbara Brenneman McLaughlin, 66, of Lincolntown, formerly of rural Delavan, died Feb. 15, 1995, at Palm Bay City Hospital, Palm Bay, Fla.

She was cremated and her ashes were scattered at sea during a family memorial service. Mrs. McLaughlin was born March 12, 1928, in Hittle Township, a daughter of Wilson and Anna Moehring Brenneman. She married Frank McLaughlin in August 1963 in Miami, Fla. He survives.

Also surviving are her father and stepmother, Wilson and Gertrude Brenneman, Delavan; three daughters, Pamela Mitchell, Houston, Texas; Linda Sellers, Roanoke, Texas; and Marcia Holsenbake, Martinez, one son, Kenneth McLaughlin, Hephzibah, one brother, Richard Brenneman, Delavan; one half brother, Alvin Brenneman, Urbana; one sister, Virginia Polcek, Galveston, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. McLaughlin worked for several years as an accounting supervisor at Carole Fabrics in Augusta, retiring in March 1993. Irene Miller STREATOR Irene Miller, 90, of 207 10th Streator, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday (Feb.

22, 1995) at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Streator, the Rev.

Jerome Hamm officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Streator. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Solon Funeral Home, Streator, with the rosary recited at 7 p.m.

She was born Sept. 19, 1904, at Blackstone, the daughter of Thomas and Ellen Hart Cassady. She married William A. Miller Dec. 29, 1926.

He died in 1972. Survivors include three sons, William J. and Bernard both of Streator; and Robert LaGrange; one daughter, Phyllis M. Thomas, Savannah, 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Seven brothers, five sisters and a grandchild preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, and the church's Secular Franciscan Order. Dale E. Perring CLINTON Dale E. Perring, 62, of Las Vegas, formerly of Clinton and Fairbury, died at 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday (Feb. 22, 1995) at his residence. He had been ill. Cremation rites will be accorded by Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas. He was born April 27, 1932, in Wapella, a son of Rudolph and Goldie Tucker Perring.

He married Ruby Roberta in Las Vegas. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Robert Dale, Las Vegas, three daughters, Beth Ann Perring, Alice Lynn Perring and Lorie Lee Perring, all of Las Vegas; one Obituaries published in The Pantagraph's news columns are run free of charge as a public service and are subject to editing. Porter EL PASO Bessie: L. Porter, 76, a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, El Paso, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 23, 1995) at the nursing home. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m.

Saturday at Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, the Rev. Norman Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso Township. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1918, at Gorham, a daughter of Silas and Della Riggert Gulley. She married Luther James Porter Jan. 2, 1937, at Sand Ridge. He died Aug.

7, 1988. Surviving are four sons, Charles Porter, Benton; Richard Porter, Goodfield; Steve Porter, 46 Oak Park, Bloomington; and Michael Porter, Peoria; five daughters, Brenda Phillips, Peoria; Linda Greer, Pekin; Anita Lovings, Secor; Melva Rodriguez, Roanoke; and Louann Miller, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Iva Conders, Percy, and Beulah Lewis, Grand Tower; 31 grandchildren; and 39 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by six sons, three brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter. Mrs. Porter was a laborer in the health care field.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association. Wayne Robb LINCOLN Wayne Robb, 64, of Lincoln died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 23, 1995) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.

Monday at Holland Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr.

Robb was born April 10, 1930, in Beason, a son of Alva and Helen Tobak Robb. He married Betty Jo Smalley Aug. 20, 1949, in Paragould, Ark. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Lincoln; two sons, Rodney Wayne, Lincoln, and Keith Allen, Phoenix, two daughters, Tanita Jo Wagner and Brenda Lee Loy, both of Lincoln; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother. Mr. Robb owned and operated W.B. Welding in Lincoln. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.

Frieda B. Schenke EUREKA The funeral of Frieda B. Schenke, 96, of formerly of Morton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home, Morton, the Rev. G.

Robert Magary officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Pekin. Visitation will be for one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home. She died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday (Feb.

22, 1995) at Eureka Apostolic Christian Home, where she was a resident. She was born Nov. 25, 1898, at Morton, the daughter of Ferdinand and Kathrine Bessinger Hofmann. She married Walter H. Schenke Feb.

18, 1926, at Peoria. He died Feb. 6, 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Florence Sorensen, Walnut Creek, and Ruthie Muehling, Tremont; one sister, Emma Drysdale, Peoria; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and one -grandson. Five sisters preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Groveland Missionary Church. Memorials may be made to her church or the Eureka Apostolic Christ.on Home. Bloomington-Normal Kari L. Beason Kari L. Beason, 15, of Michigan City, formerly of Normal, died at 2 p.m.

Wednesday (Feb. 22, 1995) at St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City, of a gunshot wound to the head. A story is on Page A2. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m.

Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, the Rev. James L. Andrews officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for two hours before the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Miss Beason was born Sept. 7, 1979, at Normal, a daughter of Charles R. and Karla S. Knitter Beason. They survive.

Other survivors include one sister, Amy Beason, Michigan City, and a maternal grandfather, Elmer Knitter, Michigan City, Ind. Miss Beason was a freshman at Rogers High School, Michigan City, Ind. Memorials may be made to the Kari L. Beason Memorial Fund. Sally E.

Bicknell Mrs. Bicknell Bicknell died of natural causes at 9:11 p.m. Monday (Feb. 20, 1995) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. She was born July 20, 1950, in Aurora, a daughter of Charles and Sally Watkins.

She married Clifford Bicknell Sept. 5, 1981, in Champaign. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Stephanie May, at home; two stepdaughters, Theresa Nichols, Stanford, and Christina Marlette Bicknell, Bloomington; one step- The funeral of Sally E. Bicknell, 44, of 1415 W.

Oakland Bloomington, a former beauty shop employee, will be at 2 p.m. today at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Fred Belcher officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service today at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Sally LIVINGSTON COUNTY Health Lamaze offered PONTIAC Lamaze and early pregnancy classes for expectant parents are being offered by the Great Beginnings Center of Saint James Hospital. A Lamaze childbirth class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Sunday in March beginning March 5 at the Saint James Professional Building, Suite 208, 612 E. Water Pontiac. The class teaches parents how to rely on a series of relaxation and breathing techniques to lessen the discomfort of childbirth.

Class participants also learn about anesthetics, postnatal care for mother and baby and Caesarean sections. A film regarding childbirth will be shown. An early pregnancy class will meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 6 at the Saint James Professional Building, Suite 208. The class is designed to help expectant mothers maintain proper mental and physical health throughout pregnancy and will cover proper nutrition, rest, basic exercises, relaxation, discussion with physicians, infant needs, grandparents, breastfeeding and more.

To register for either class, call EDUCATION Kindergarten registration Holy Trinity parish schools will preregister kindergartners through March 3. Noncredit courses offered LINCOLN Lincoln College will offer 14 noncredit courses during the spring semester, covering topics such as gardening, art, language, line dancing and computers. Registration fees must be paid at registration to reserve a space. Dr. Marion Taulbee Dr. Marion L. Taulbee, 85, of 303 Granada Road, Bloomington, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday (Feb.

23, 1995) at his home. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is handling arrangements. Alfreda Tucker Alfreda Tucker, 88, a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Beardstown, a Bloomington native, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 22, 1995) at St.

John's Hospital, Springfield. Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Beardstown City Cemetery, the Rev. Eugene Weitzel officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at Sager Funeral Home, Beardstown.

She was born Feb. 21, 1907, at Bloomington, the daughter of Henry Edgar and Rose Ellen Groves Graham. She married Granval Nelson Tucker Jan. 11, 1927, at Atlanta. He died Nov.

2, 1977. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Greathouse, Beardstown; one sister, Berniece Johnson, LeRoy; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson. Mrs. Tucker worked as a nurse's aide at the Beardstown Hospital for several years.

Earlier, she worked for the Woolworth's store in Beardstown. She was a 1925 graduate of Atlanta High School and attended the Methodist Church in Atlanta. Later in life, Mrs. Tucker attended the St. Alexius Catholic Church, Beardstown.

NEWSWATCH Nation Gramm rakes in record $4 million DALLAS On the eve of his formal declaration of candidacy, Texas Sen. Phil Gramm set a single-event record Thursday by raising more than $4.1 million for his 1996 Republican presidential campaign. "I have the most reliable friend that you can have in American politics and that is ready money," Gramm told more than 2,800 people at a $1,000 a person dinner. Because of the event's success, Gramm said he would start the campaign "in a stronger position than any candidate in American history." Gramm, 52, is scheduled to make a formal campaign announcement this morning in College Station, Texas, where he taught economics before being elected to Congress in 1978. Ex-congressman indicted on bribery charges WASHINGTON, D.C.

Former Ohio Rep. Donald "Buz" Lukens was arrested Thursday on charges of taking bribes from two businessmen who were fighting to keep their trade school in the federal student loan program. An indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court accused Lukens, a Republican, of bribery and conspiracy to misuse his public office. He was arrested by the FBI in Dallas.

The money, $27,500, allegedly changed hands in 1990, just months before Lukens resigned from Congress rather than face an announced ethics committee probe of a second allegation of sexual misconduct. He had been convicted earlier following a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old and was defeated for renomination. Envoy dispatched to firm up Iraq sanctions WASHINGTON, D.C. The Clinton administration is going on the offensive to keep Iraq squirming under tough U.N. sanctions.

Madeleine Albright, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is traveling to European capitals and the Persian Gulf to try to hold the line on the U.N. sanctions by forming a coalition in the Security Council against France and Russia. Her first stop is London for breakfast today with Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd. Other planned stops are Oman, in the Persian Gulf, Czechoslovakia and Italy.

After returning to Washington next Tuesday, Ambassador Albright will make a second trip with the same objective to Argentina and Honduras. She also hopes to arrange to see leaders of three African countries, Rwanda, Botswana and Nigeria. World Chechnya war casts gloom over holiday MOSCOW There were the usual fireworks and parades. But on a day on which the Kremlin used to boast about Soviet military might, there were plenty of reminders of just how far Russia's armed forces have fallen. The biggest reminder was Russia's unpopular war in the southern breakaway republic of Chechnya, which has been a humiliating exercise for what was once one of the world's most feared armies.

"Chechnya has convinced us once again that we are too late with conducting military reform," President Boris Yeltsin said Thursday after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Feb. 23 used to be Red Army Day. Now it's called Defenders of the Fatherland Day. U.N.

withdrawal from Somalia proceeding MOGADISHU, Somalia Rival clans battled with mortars, machine guns and anti-aircraft weapons in Mogadishu's streets Thursday as the United Nations neared completion of its withdrawal from Somalia. The United Nations said it would complete its pullout by Wednesday, shielded 1 by a U.S.-led international military force of some 14,000 sitting offshore in 23 warships. "The drawdown is going very well," said George Bennett, the U.N. spokesman in Mogadishu. "We're taking out more (equipment) than we thought we of trucks and other vehicles sat on the piers at Mogadishu's seaport, waiting to be loaded onto chartered cargo ships.

Lewis was born Feb. 17, 1906 at Marion, IL, a son of Spiller D. and Ollie Reel Lewis. He married Catherine Black on April 19, 1934 in Bloomington. She died April 24, 1985.

Suvivors include his two daughters, Jackie (Ron) Wohlwend, Morris, IL and Nancy Katherine (Merrill) Butler, Rockford, IL; eight grandchildren, Susan (Steve) Pitkin, Sally Lundeen, Julie (Phil) Vernetti, Philip Lundeen, Maggie (Ronan) Harty all of Rockford, Mary (Kevin) Olson, Laura (Matt) Glenn and David Wohlwend all of Morris, IL; and 10 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a and one brother. Mr. Lewis was a member of the First Christian Church of Bloomington and served on the board of Directors for the Grundy Bank. He was dedicated to many civic and fraternal orginazations in Bloomington.
