OF SMALL BIDDERS. A Great Demand for the ew Issue Strictly for Investment An English Opinion Morgan A- Co. Expect to Take $60,000,000 ot the Bonds. Londdx, Feb. 6.

The Daily News in article commenting upon the subscriptions for the new American loan says: "The manner in which the loan has been subscribed will repair the damage done to the credit of the United States, and will re establish public confidence." New Yokk, Feb. 6. The American Exchange National bank deposited at the sub-treasury this morning in gold coin and the Bank of New York $200,000. The $1,500,000 in gold coin which arrived on the Unberia, consigned to J. P.

Morgan will be deposited today. The steamship Majestic which arrived from Europe last night brought $210,000 in gold coin and bars. Washington, Feb. 6 Fifteen or 20 of the most expert clerks of the Treasury Department have been today working on the tabulation of the enormous mass of bond bids, and the most sanguine of them scarcely expec's to complete the labor before Wednesday next. Until this tabulation is completed no definite irnnounrement can be issued to bidders as to whether their bids have been accepted or not.

The number of small bids received was remarkable. The fiftv dollar offers ran up into the hundreds and at fairl? good prices, and over 1000 small banks and private individuals whose offers at the highest rates of acceptability ranged from $500 up to $8000 or $0000 are not ncluded in the lists published. The of fers by all classes of small bidders below the 110 and a fraction limit, which seems to shut off the issue, were still more num erous. A feature in these offers was that so manv of tbos of laige amount, ranging in manv cases up to one or more millions ol dollars, came from fiduciary institu tions which thereby indicated that they bad no better outlet tban that afforded by United States bonds at the price at which they will undoubtedly beawarded Tne great Katnre of the bidding was the offer of P. Morgan's syndicate.

which as now composed includes only his own banking house, the Dtustcht batik of Berlin, Germanv, and Harvey Fisk Sons of New York. Thev pro posed to take the entire issue at 1 10 6887 Only one other bid of anything like an equal amount was received. Mr. Morgan, after figuring on the bids. received, said that he estimated that he would be awardeckaniiis bid about 60 per cent, of the $100,000,000.

He reached the conclusion simply from heariug the various bids read, as he did not think that more than bids above that figure bad been made. AT VASHIGTOX. Work In The House Tbe Tar! ft Hill- Canal. Washington, Feb. 6 In tbe Hon yesterday the request for consideration of the bill dts'gned to prevent prize tight as advertised to occur Paso, Texas February 14, was objected to.

The House refused to pass the District ot Columbia appropriation bill as amended bv the vote of 135 to 143 Senator Uaay's resolution to re-com mit to tbe bnacce omaittee tbe House tariff bill and free coinage substitute reported for it, with instructions to re port them back as separate propositions. was, at bis siJ pestion, postponed til Monoa? next alter tbe morning hour, it having been tirst modified so as merely to have the matter re-committed "for further consideration." It is reported that President Cleveland will at an early date send to tbe Housea special message bearing upon the sui iect of tbe Nicaragua canal. It this rumor be true, it is not unlikely that the Prtsident may embody in his message the principal teatures ot tbe report made bi tte engi commission which visited Nicaragua last summer, but wbicb tbe war depart ment has not as vet made public. Meanwhile the sub committee of tbe House commerce immittee to whom the several Nicaraguan canal bills have been referred, have begun their sessions with a view to formulating a measure looking to tne construction ot tbe canal.
