Man sentenced to 30 days for abduction A Mississippi man was sentenced Monday in McLean County Circuit Court to 30 months of probation and 30 days in jail for abducting his two children from the custody of his divorced wife. Charles C. Harrison, 34, Hickory, also was ordered by Circuit Judge Luther Dearborn to pay restitution of $2,020.20 to his former wife, Phoebe Quillen, 1303 W. Market St.

Harrison was convicted by a jury May 7 of taking his two children, Belinda, 10, and Carri Lynn, 7, home with him to Mississippi after picking them up at his wife's home during a weekend visit in November. Mrs. Quillen located the children in Mississippi with the help of an attorney and brought them back to the state herself. Harrison had had visitation rights, but was not allowed to take the children from the state. He was among the first persons to be charged under a new state law that makes it a crime for divorced parents to abduct their own children.

Harrison is appealing the conviction. An attorney was appointed Monday for his appeal. Harrison posted $500 Monday to await an appeal hearing. Also sentenced Monday by Dearborn was Kelly Roy Keeling, 17, of 705 W. Jackson who received four years' probation and 14 days in jail for burglary.
