A Diskkvedly Famous Phyhciax. The feme which Dr. Root has obtained by his wonderful emus is immense. Ho physician in the country has eared so many eases of consumption, cancer, heart, liver and other diseases. Therefore he the peretai to consult if yoa are sick.

Make a note and govern youraelf accordingly -at the Marlboro Hotel. The Dr. returns to Hew York in a few days, and will not probably return under a year. If tastefol and not orer-tedlooa entertainments are the order of the indication, tbe Boeton Museum holds out its modbum of pleasantries for the crowd. It ha its own styb of pieces and its own style of patrons, and between them baa become established a most popular resort npon wbbh ss a peopb rather pride ourselves.

We pnblUh npon the fint pa two prodmnttioni by Mamchusetti Governors, both appointing the sixth day of April as a day of fluting.

One Is by a Royal GoYernor, serving under George IL; the other, by our present excellent Chief Magistrate. Not quite a century has elapsed since the first one was written, and yet to what events it relbrsi At that time three expeditions were proposed in Massachusetts; the fint against Louisbourg; the second against Ti-coaderoga; and the third against Fort du Qoesne all of which were successful. The wan with the Indians on the frontier were carried on with vigor and effect by Governor Fownail in person. The deaths of three eminent divines of the period occurred that year: Jonathan Edwards, President of the College in New Jersey, and formerly minister of Northampton; Thomas Prince, pastor of the Old South Church, and nthrw of A Chronological History of New England, published In 1736; and Experience Muy-hew, minister at Marthas Vineyard, aged W. He spent 83 years of his lift in the gospel ministry, chiefly among the Indians of that island.

Fast Day is not observed in Rhode Island. We have never seen a statement of the reasons for this departure from the customs of tho other New England States. The Governor of that State appoint a day of Thanksgiving, but we do not remember an instance of bis appointing a State Fast I Political Discovxxt. Recent events in the Bff of New Hampshire and Connecticut have proved that there Is a North; and the Providence Journal of this morning, in allndlng to the election in Rhode Island, says the day will fix tho latitude of that State. Thx Covet.

Tho hearing upon the charges brought against Col. Ezra Forristall waa continued yesterday afternoon, when the evidence waa closed, and tba arguments are to be made tbb afternoon. Wo barn that before proceeding, yesterday, the principal counsel for tbe prosecution stated that he waa almost tempted to abandon the ease, aa the newspapers In general, and the Transcript in particular, had virtually decided the matter. But tlie chairman of the committee and the counsel for tbe defence, reminded the wanderer that the newspaper were not on trial, a fret which he seemingly forgot. The result of the testimony, yesterday, fully sustained the position we took la our notice of the first session of tho investigation, viz.

that the charges made were not even sustained by the witnesses called by the parties active in the movement. It did not require much sagacity to see that the whole proceedings were ridbuloui, the charges frivolous aad that the result of the investigation would be more eredltabb to Hr. Forristall than to his accusers. The mountain has brought forth a very small mouse, and as flu- as ire have beard tbe opinion expressed, it is that the person bringing, the charges, bis witnesses and counsel, bar been engaged npon about tbe smallest business that baa been brought to public notice for a long time. Attkmptixo to Pam CorxTxnrxrr Bills.

A young man recently from the country, named Charles Berry, was brought spin the Police Court this morning, for attempting to para a counterfeit 85 bill on tho Buflulk Bank, Boston, and having in possession another counterfeit PS bill on tbe Exchange Bank, Fort-land. On the way to the poliee office the prisoner threw from him the Portland bill. The Court held him in 8800 for trial. Newlt Cobtrivxd Apparatus fox Discharging Caxxox.
