Policies ismed CounOy Lite Insurance Company of Cartyl By Pantograph staff After hearing two weeks ago that a federal food giveaway program is being cut back, local food pantries and shelter programs in McLean County have received some good news from the United Way of McLean County. The county, under a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is in line to receive $49,088 to provide food and shelter to people in need. "The monies available through this program need to be used to supplement existing programs," said Steve BeMiller, United Way chairman. Under terms of the grant, organizations can apply for the money until Nov, 11.

Agencies must complete a brief application form available from the United Way. Mid Central Community Action, The Salvation Army, Home Sweet Home Mission, Catholic Social Service and St. Vincent de Paul Society received a portion of the $56,076 distributed last year. The United Way serves as administrator of the local program. In all, those organizations provided nearly 23,000 meals and more than 1,400 nights of shelter.

In addition, some low-income residents were able to stay in their homes after receiving assistance for rent or utility payments. The money comes at a crucial time for area agencies. They learned, two weeks ago the federal government's commodity program was being slashed by more than 60 percent For information, contact the United Way at 201 E. Grove St, Bloomington.
