Company To Build Smaller La Salle Nuclear Generator % CHICAGO (UPI) — Commonwealth Edison Co. announced Wednesday it has agreed to reduce the size of its proposed La Salle County nuclear generating plant in exchange for the dropping of objections filed with the Atomic Energy Commission. In a statement released in Chicago, the firm said the agreement "removes all opposition to construction" of the nuclear station to be built near Marseilles. The utility company agreed to reduce the size of the proposed cooling lake for the generators from 4,480 acres to 2,100 acres. It also agreed to reduce the size of the entire site from 6,860 acres to 2,970 acres. Edison said its agreement was worked out with a number of individuals and groups from communities near the proposed site who had gone to the AEC to halt final approval of the generators. In the agreement, the company said it would make the released land available to sale or lease to the intervenors.
