DICK KLEINER-- Fxit Janet Sue, Enter Viva By DICK KLEINER (Newspaper Enterprise Assn.) HOLLYWOOD (NBA) Janet Sue Hoffman is hardly the name for a movie star. So when she began making movies with Andy Warhol, he looked around For a new name for her. The first thing that caught his eye was a roll of paper towels and that's how Viva got her name. She's here now, making her film debut in "Dealer," with Gene llackman, Karen Black and a new hopeful named Kris Kristoffersbn. "Hollywood movies aren't great as I thought they would be, for three reasons," Viva says.

"There's not enough money, there are too many retakes a there's nobody to stick a chair under me when fee) like sitting down." Viva is a birdlike woman with big eyes and a way of making sudden, out-of-context statements like "I'm loo dumb to lie" and "I'm against drugs -they've become too middle class." She's also eight months pregnant and her husband, a French film-maker named Michel Auder, goes everywhere with her. She sometimes surprises him with her out-of-nowhere remarks. She was talking about her childhood--she's the daughter, she says, of a criminal lawyer and lived around the Thousand Islands area of upstate New York--and she used to be able to dip a glass in the St. Lawrence ftivcr and drink the pure water. "I'm very upset about pollution now," she says.

"I think what I'd really like to do is live somewhere in Africa." "Oh?" said "I hadn't heard about that one." Prom upstate New York she fled some problems and went to Syracuse. To get away from Syracuse she went to Boston. Then there was a man who wanted to start a world govern- ment so escaped to Mew York. She likes the Viva Auder better than Janet Sue is a little upset because, despite all the publicity she's given the name, the paper towel company has never acknowledged her existence. "They haven't even sent me a shred of paper," she says. She says she and her husband arc currently penniless. Auder recently made a picture in with Viva in the lead. But it hasn't been released and he's worried about it.

"It would take too long to explain it to you," Auder eays. "It would take as long to explain it as it does to ran the film." "It goes in and out of time --the time warp thing--Irom then to now," Viva says. formerly Janet Sue VIVA Anyhow, it isn't out so Auder has no money from it, and they're broke. "Living coitt us $200 a week," she says, "exclusive of the hotel where we're staying. That includes the masseur." There may be something in the offing, money-wise.

She's written a' book, an obviously autobiographical novel called "Superstar," which has a good reviews in places and is selling moderately well. It's a rowdy, raucous book, with some very funny and some very dirty passages. Perhaps by the time the baby comes some royalty checks will flow in.
