Saddam Hussein "is out of control, nuts and disloyal," he editorialized.

He calls Dan Quayle "Mr. Po-tatoe Head." Madonna? "Dances in such a way that it would make kids think it's OK to swear and do bad things." He supports school bus seat belts, though. And bicycle helmets. And Cub Scout popcorn sales. "I hope you all know you have a Cub Scout editor," he wrote in a recent issue.

Slansky is 10 years old. His paper, the Out of This World News, has an international subscription base and a readership that includes David Letterman, who had the pint-sized publisher on his "Late Night With David Letter-man" talk show. Slansky was typically forthright about the experience. "David Letterman doesn't talk to his guests before the show," he said. "And after the show, he walks straight into his dressing room with his head down and doesn't talk to anybody." The blond-haired, blue-eyed FREE Courtesy Spend 3 days and 2 nights ot uioomington.

fourth-grader launched the paper in October 1989 with a computer he received from his parents, Jerry and Marlene. "I started writing articles and it just poured out," Blake said. "I try to write from my heart what's going on in the world." And what's going on in his family, including updates on 14-year-old brother Brett There have been articles about Brett's first date and Brett's broken arm. "Brett's cast is off and his arm is breakable again," Blake told readers. Other features include restaurant reviews, movie critiques, travel, sports and editorials on world affairs.

Mrs. Slansky types the stories into the computer, which explains the paper's motto: "Giving you the news when my typist is in a good mood." The paper's 100 subscribers, at $1 per year, include co-workers of Blake's father, who passed around some early issues at the brokerage firm he manages; neighbors; and people the Slanskys have met on their vacations around the country and in Venezuela. Someone sent a copy to the Let-terman show, prompting an invitation that led to Blake's Oct 7 ap- -pearance on "Late Night" He wrote a story about the New York trip, ending it with this note: "Now that I am famous, all sub-1; scriptions must be renewed." According to weather scientists, some 18 metric tons of atmosphere press on the average person every day. Half of the Earth's total weight is concentrated in the air within eight miles of the atmosphere.

The air is quite heavy and creates pressure on the Earth. The pressure is constantly changing and provides clues on what conditions are approaching. A high pressure system consists of a large dome of air that sinks, causing more weight of the atmo-. sphere to push against the Earth. Clear skies and fair weather are characteristic of this system.

A low pressure system has air that rises, then cools and forms clouds, and consists of precipitation and possible high winds. DAvidE.
