(Zayre Plaza) Bloomington busing remain "The ability of the anti-busers to generate any significant crowds wasn't there this year," Netfh said. "Last year crowds of 400 to 500 were not uncommon. These same groups draw 40 to 50 people this year, if that many." The desegregation order, issued in July, 197S, by U.S. District Judge James Gordon, required more than 20,000 of the then-projected enrollment of 134,000 pupils to be bused. School enrollment dropped to less than 120,000 this year as some children were sent to private schools.

Robert DePrez, the most vocal of the antibusing leaders, insists that the anti-busing movement has not lost its original fervor. He plans to lead another delegation to Washington soon to "take our message to President Carter. "He wants to save gas, but we are wasting about 4 billion gallons of gas a year by force busing children in schools," DePrez said. Lyman Johnson, 70, former head of the Kentucky NAACP, says members of anti-busing groups are "frustrated. "It wasn't as bad this year as last year," Johnson said.

Ky. (AP)-The civil unrest and street disturbances that greeted the beginning of court-ordered busing here virtually disappeared in the 1976-77 school year, which ends this week. But the desegregation plan that sparked massive riots here in the fall of 1975 has left its scars. Remedial reading instructors and counselors have been fired in an effort to help the school board balance its budget, as required by state law. In another belt-tightening measure, the school board voted to eliminate spring sports in high schools next year.

"Our financial problems were due at least in part to busing," said Dave Espin, an assistant school superintendent. "But everything has gone up: lights, gas, water, telephone, all these things. Madison, was charged about 2 a m. Sunday after police said he hit a flower pot on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East Washington Street. Police said Plue told them the accelerator pedal stuck. The pot was found about 15 feet from its original spot, police said. Plue posted $100 for a court appearance June 9.

Rodolio Marmolejo, 45, of 1205 W. Mulberry was charged about 8 p.m. Sunday after he was stopped at Stockholm Street and Oakland Avenue for driving with a noisy muffler, police said. He posted $100 for a June 16 court appearance. "And before they came back they limited the class size and that required us to hire more teachers." Espin said school officials are pleased, generally, that the second year of desegregation "went a lot smoother than the first. "From a busing standpoint, the year went quite well," said Espin. He said "time out" rooms had been set up in schools, to be used when tempers flare or racial fights erupt, and that they have helped. "I don't think that the parents have changed their feelings a great deal they still want to talk about and criticize busing. But there is no need of being out there marching and shaking your fists at buses, because they are going to keep on rolling anyway, and the parents realize this," Espin said.

Police Chief John Nevin agreed. Steet activity, he said, was "way down" compared to what it was in the first year, when marches and demonstrations occurred almost weekly. Shoplifting charged Two Normal women were charged with theft under $150 Saturday afternoon after they were accused of stealing merchandise valued at $102 from Zayre department store, 1710 E.
