Sorority lauds Mrs. Don Willis Wednesday, October 24, 1973 GARLAND DAILY NEWS Page 3 Mrs. Donald R. Willis, 1606 Surrey and Mrs. Daune Standlee of Richardson received 1973 Alpha Phi Service Awards at the annual fiMjnders day luncheon.

The two alumnae were honored for continuing devotion to Alpha Phi and for outstanding community service. Mrs. Willis is district gover- MRS. DONALD R. WILLIS nor for Alpha Phi.

She is responsible for three collegiate chapters of the sorority at North Texas State University, East Texas State University and the University of Texas at I Arlington. She has held several offices in the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Phi including president and was on the 1970 convention committee. In Garland, Pat Willis has been active in Jaycee-Ettes, holding the offices of secretary, treasurer and director. She has been an officer in Park Crest Elementary School PTA and is a room mother at Ida Handley Elementary. The family attends St.

Paul United Methodist Church where she has taught Sunday school and served on the building campaign committee. She is listed in Outstanding Young Women of America. The Garland woman has donated volunteer hours to the Dallas chapter of the American Heart Association, which is the national philanthropy of Alpha Phi. In 1972 the sorority marked its centennial celebration. Mrs.

Joel Presser shower honoree Mrs. Joel Presser was honored with a bridal tea shower Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Dorothy McMullen. 1518 Inwood Blvd. hostess was Mrs.

Rosa Hata- way. Guests were registered by Mrs. Nancy Morris, sister-in- law of the bide. Other members of the house party rclud- ed Mrs. Margie Morris, the mother.

Carolyn Snell, Joy Smith, and Shirley Smal- lev. The refreshment table, covered with a blue linen tablecloth, was centered with a crystal punch bowl surrounded by English ivy and blue carnations. French blue candles in silver candelabra flanked the punch bowl. Fifty guests attended. Mrs.

Presser is the former June Morris. She and her husband, Joel, have recently returned to Garland after a short stay in New York following their marriage Cadette Girl Scouts begin yearns activities Cadette Girl Scout Troop 746. the oldest Girl Scout troop in the Garland area, began the activities with meetings at the home of the new leader, Patricia Ernst. Get-acquainted games highlighted the first meeting, and a 10-mile bicycle ride in the mud was the second activity. They ate lunch and explored the winding path cut by Duck Creek, finding and identifying calcite formations in the steep rock walls.

Honor offices were filled with Laurie Raeth6r volunteering for scribe, and Cathy being elected as trea- suer. Patrol leaders are Pat Gilbert, Carolee Cooper, and Pam Endsley. Assistant leaders are Carolyn Culpepper, Georgia Mae Hardin and Teresa Hall. Kay Renfro is refreshment chairman. Troop 746 members are Pat Gilbert, Teresa Cole, Carolee Cooper, Lynn Gordon, Teresa Hall and Georgia Mae Hardin.

Members new to the troop this fall are Sherie Baker, Carolyn Culpepper, Pam Endsley, Cathy Ernst, Debbie Mathis. Laurie Raether and Kay Renfro. Cadettes meet two Thursday evenings and two Saturday mornings a month as a irootp. In addition, the various patrols meet with their advisors to pursue patrol projects. Blue Birds take trip A field trip to Central Fire Station was the activity for Blue Birds Jill Alexander, Sonya Boyd.
