LaFever, 85, of 408 E. Oakland Bloomlngton, a former fraternity housemother and cleaning company employee, died of possible scam Bloomington-Normal union representatives are warning of a possible scam on businesses being asked to buy ads in a magazine. Mike Matejka, editor of the Union News for the Bloomington-Normal Trades and Labor Assembly, said, "I'm picking up a scam here." Matejka said businesses have been solicited by phone to buy ads under two false First he said, businesses are being told "Local union members have been surveyed and they picked your business as one of their favorites and that is why we are giving you the opportunity to buy an ad in our publication." Second, the phone solicitors say they are putting out a coupon booklet to be distributed to rli the union members at large plants throughout the area. "The national union has a strict policy forbidding (use) of its name to be used In phone solicitation," Matejka said. "The local has not authorized anyone to do so and does not use phone Matejka, who believes the scam originated in the South, said if businesses have questions they can call his office at 827-3934.

Other survivors Include three sons, Doug, Kevin and Jeff Moser, all at home; four daughters, Marsha Fehr and Jants Fehr, both of Fairbury; Bonnie Wagenbach, Burlington, Iowa; and Sally Fehr, Strawn; six brothers, Mervin Rig-genbach, Tallahassee, Everett Riggenbach, Winter Garden, Clarence Riggenbach, Venice, Vern Riggenbach and Glen Riggenbach, both of Paulding; and Ersel Riggenbach, Naples, seven sisters, Melvine Zink, Fort Myers, Eleanor Tope, Latty; Arlene Carnahan, Paulding; Florence Treece, Venice, Lila Miller, Antwerp, Ohio; Lorena Steffen and Carol Tarr, both of Bluffton, and nine grandchildren. Her parents, one son, one daughter and two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs.

Moser was a homemaker who had previously worked at Fairvlew Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury, as a certified nurse's assistant She was a member of Apostolic Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped, Morton, or to Falrview Haven Nursing Home. Helen M. Severson CLINTON Helen M. Severson, 84, of Torrance, formerly of Clinton, died at 11:35 a.m.

yesterday (Nov. 11, 1992) at Torrance Memorial Hospital. She will be brought to Herlngton- sisters, Dorothy Ball, Frankle Crocetti, Rose Munn and Jeanette Jones, all of Louisville, and Del-ores Hassfutter, Cincinnati; and four grandchildren. Dr. Zeller worked for many years in Union City and Wichita, Kan.

He was chief of anesthesia and respiratory therapy at St Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington. Before a short illness, he was working at Doctor's Park Outpatient Surgery Center in Cape Girardeau. He attended medical school at the University of Louisville. He was a member of the American Medical Association; American Society of Anesthesiology; Tennessee Society of Anesthesiology; AOPA Aviation Association; American Bantam Association; and the Sedgewick County Medical Society of Cape Girardeau. EDUCATION College open house A fall open house at Mennonite College of Nursing will be Saturday for high school and college students. Penn March 12, 1923, in Bloomlngton. He died in 1968. She married Nels Nelson July 25, 1931, in Bloomlngton. He died May 2, 1970. On May 30, 1957, she married Andrew LaFever in Bloomlngton.

He died April 24, 1977. Survivors include two sons, Paul Penn, 912 E. Walnut St, and Henry "Hank" Nelson, R.R. 4, both of Bloomlngton; two daughters, Joan Young, 122 Greenwood Bloomlngton, and Joyce Alvis, 4 Curtis Court, Normal; two sisters, Ann Woellms, 1019 E. Front St, and Irene Cochran, 102 Packard both of Bloomlngton; 27 grandchildren; 58 greatgrandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

One son, two daughters, three brothers, three sisters and one great-grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. LaFever had been cook and housemother at the Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University and in the early 1950s was named a Bloomington-Normal Mother of the Year. She also had been employed at the Bob McGraw and Advance cleaners. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association. Darlene V. Lee Darlene V. Lee, 69, of 424 Fourth St, Northmeadow Village, Normal, died at 4:07 a.m. yesterday (Nov.

Friday at the Anchor United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Schneck-enburger will officiate. The family will greet friends after the service Friday at the-church. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomlngton, is handling arrangement.

Mr. Hagar died at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1992) at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City, after a long illness. He was born June 22, 1926, in Bloomlngton, a son of Albert and Cora Heins Hagar.

He married Mollie Boyer June 8, 1947, at Riverside. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, David J. Hagar, Colfax, and Stephen E. Hagar, Anchor; one daughter, Linda L.

Meiners, Tucson, and five grandchildren. Mr. Hagar was a farmer and operated a television repair business, citizens band radio and satellite dish sales and service firm. He was a member of the Anchor United Methodist Church and McLean County Farm Bureau. Memorials may be made to the Eastern Illinois McLean County Ambulance Service or to a charity of the donor's choice.

James E. Herman COOKSVILLE James Edward Herman, 37, Santa Ana, formerly of Cooksville, died Oct 10, 1992, in California. He had muscular dystrophy for 30 years. A memorial service was held Oct 14 in Santa Ana. Mr.

Herman was born Nov. 10, 1954, in Bloomlngton, a son of James and Beverly Cary Herman. Survivors include his parents; and two brothers, Ronald and Steve, both of Santa Ana. Mr. Herman and his family-moved to California in 1959.

He attended the University of California at Irvine. Randall Hleronymus FAIRBURY Randall Hleronymus, 70, a lifelong Fairbury resident and a carpenter, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1992) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Ur-bana. His private graveside service will be Friday in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, the Rev.

Stanley Rapp Officiating. There will be no visitation. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, has charge of arrangements. Mr. Hieronymus was born Jan.

18, 1922, in Fairbury, a son of Nelson T. and Ada Wilborn Hieronymus. He married Phyllis Marie Bean Sept 19, 1946, in Salt Lake City. She survives. Other survivors Include one son, James Nelson, Fairbury; and one sister, Dorothy Householder, Fairbury.

Kurtz ATLANTA Lucille F. Kurtz, 91, of Atlanta, formerly of Waynes- ville, died at 4:16 a.m. yesterday I (Nov. 11, 1992) at Bartmann Health Care Center, rural Atlanta. Her graveside service will be at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Kurtz was born Nov. 2, 1901, I in Sciota, a daughter of John Au-; gust and Cora Evans Dreher. She married Ralph E. Kurtz Feb.

13, 1921, in Atlanta. He died May 11, 1979. Survivors include two sons, Dwight, Delavan, and wenaeii, Edina, two daughters, Frances Holleman, Wapella, and Phyllis Purlee, Lawndale; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. One sister and five grandchildren preceded her in death. Mrs.

Myrna Dean Moser FAIRBURY Myrna Dean Moser, 53, Fairbury, died at 4:25 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 11, 1992) at St Joseph Medical Center, Blooming-ton.

Stubblefield Funeral Home, Normal, has charge of arrangements. Wood Nursing Home in Peoria. She was born July 6, 1899, in Cabery, a daughter of Henry and Christina Ottmiller Raab. She married Hugh Kirkpatrick Nov. 1, 1923, In Chicago.

He died Feb. 5, 1964. She married Bruce Riggs in 1975. He died April 18, 1976. Surviving are two daughters, Mildred Berry, Peoria, and Eula Mae Patzer, Gulf Shores, six grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.

Two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild preceded her in death. Mrs. Riggs taught school in Ford County. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Blooming-ton, and the Order of Eastern Star. Memorials may be made to her church or to Clare House.

Her last name and a daughter's first name were incorrect in yesterday's Pantagraph. Stanley B. Shuman Stanley B. Shuman, 73, of 1004 Barton Drive, Normal, a retired Illinois State University professor, died at 3:25 a.m. yesterday (Nov.

11, 1992) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Stubblefield Funeral Home, Normal, is in charge of arrangements. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home, Normal, the Rev. David P.

Dees officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, Blooming-ton. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr.

Shuman was born April 3, 1919, in Willard, Ohio, a son of William Lawrence and Lathiel Bloom Shuman. He married Margie Galer Aug. 23, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Robert, at home; one daughter, Katherine Gregory, Houston, Texas; and two sisters, Lenore Korb, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Janet Botzum, Akron, Ohio.

One brother preceded him in death. Mr. Shuman received his bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Ohio State University, Columbus, and a doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He retired from Illinois State University in 1986 as professor of geography and assistant vice president for physical planning and operations. He was involved in many aspects of the university, working actively for change in purpose from Illinois State Normal University to ISU.

He served two terms as chairman of the University Council and was twice acting dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He was chairman of the Facilities Planning Committee for Redbird Arena at the time of his retirement Before joining the ISU faculty in 1960, he had served on the geography faculties of the College of Wooster (Ohio) from 1948-51 and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from November 1941 to August 1945 in the Pacific Theater. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dr. O.A. Zeller Dr. Orville A. Zeller, 75, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Bloomington, an anesthesiologist and recreational pilot died at 3:25 p.m.

Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1992) at his residence. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Union City, the Rev. Ed Byrn officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Union City. White-Ranson Funeral Home, Union City, had charge of arrangements. Dr. Zeller was born March 13, 1917, in Louisville, the son of Orville A. and Mary Steltenpohl Zeller Sr.

He married Rachel Ann Nesbitt Jan. 10, 1969. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Orville A. Zeller III, Union City; four daughters, Mary Kincade and Anna Lowrance, both of Union City; Suzanne Weber, Bloomington; and Marguerite Zeller, Memphis, two stepdaughters, Kellie Lee Kays, Charleston, S.C., and Jodie Lynn Smith, Marion; one brother, Charles, Louisville; five eacn or ine esuDiisnments.

Charles Zaneis CLINTON Charles Leslie Zaneis 99, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Clinton, died at 3:15 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 11, 1992) at Brownsville Medical Center. He will be brought to Herington-Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Bloomington-Normal Kenneth N.

Fisher The funeral of Kenneth N. Fisher, 84, of 704 N. Roosevelt Bloomlngton, formerly of Minier, a retired machinist and delivery service founder, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomlngton. The Rev.

Fred Belcher will officiate. Burial will be in Minier Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the memorial home, where Minier Masonic Lodge 641 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Mr.

Fisher died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1992) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. He was born July 30, 1908, at Hopedale, a son of Harvey and Myrtle Vaughn Fisher. He married Dorothy M.

King Sept 25, 1930, in Peoria. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Beckler, Washington; one sister, Nola Frey, San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren. Mr. Fisher, who attended Bloomlngton High School and Brown's Business College, was a machinist for 33 years at Caterpillar Tractor retiring in 1971.

In 1933, he founded a package delivery service, Kenney's Dime Delivery. He was a member of Local 974 of the United Auto Workers; member and past master of Minier Masonic Lodge 641; and the Bloomlngton Consistory. Memorials may be made to Minier Masonic Lodge 641 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Eva Huie Eva Huie, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Bloomlngton, a retired teacher and X-ray technician, died at 3:12 p.m. Oct 23, 1992, at Clarkston Court, Springfield.

Miss Huie donated her body to medical science. A memorial service was Oct 27, 1992, at Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel, Springfield. She was born July 9, 1908, in Battle Lake, a daughter of Clarence Ralph and Flora Alice Ham Huie. Survivors include a brother, David Huie, Racine, and a nephew, William Keslick, New Orleans, with whose family Miss Huie had made her home in Blooming-ton. A sister and a brother preceded her in death.

Miss Huie, who had attended Illinois State Normal University, taught for several years at the Dale School, southwest of Bloomlngton. She moved to Springfield in 1945. and Nellie Miner Jones. She was the oldest of eight children. Two of her sisters, Mrs. Lucille Millizen and Mrs. Beulah Williams, live in Monticello.

Another sister, Mrs. Nelle Stensel, lives in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her brother, Robert Jones, lives in Pittsburgh, Pa. A sister, Hazel and two brothers, Paul and Kenneth, preceded her in death. Mrs.

Trenchard attended elementary and high school in Monticello. She graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She taught English and related subjects at Cisco, Tucson, Arizona, and Monticello High Schools. She married the late Wendell B. Trenchard of DeLand, October 16, 1926.

Their daughter, Joan Trenchard French, resides in Peoria. She had three grandsons, Bron, Strawn and Penn French, Bloomlngton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home. Mrs.

Lee was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Bloomlngton, a daughter of Harry and Ruth Cottrell Poling. She married H. Robert Lee May 12, 1940, in Owensboro, Ky. He died June 8, 1989.

Surviving are three sons, Bob Pontiac; Michael, Chicago; and Jerry, 424 Fourth St, North-meadow Village; six daughters: Judy Fansler, Chenoa; Pat Wheeler, 1302 W. Chestnut St, Bloomlngton; Carol Dunahee and Linda Corrigan, both of Centralia; Sharon Graves, Danvers; and Rose Lee, 1500 Ensign Drive, Normal; one sister; Hazel Hinegardner, Normal; one brother, Harry Poling, 908 S. Vale St, Bloomlngton; 25 grandchildren; and 22 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and two grandsons. Mrs.

Lee had worked as a waitress in several Bloomington-Normal restaurants. Memorials may be made to the BroMenn Hospice Unit Hattie A. Kirkpatrick Rlggs The graveside service of Hattie A. Kirkpatrick Riggs, 93, a former resident of 604V E. Douglas St, Bloomlngton, and 604 Broadway, Normal, will be at 2 p.m.

Friday in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, the Rev. Philip Queen officiating. There will be no visitation. Stubblefield Funeral Home, Normal, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs.

Riggs died at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1992) at Bel- and four great grandchildren. Mrs, Trenchard's interests centered around her family, the educaiton, reading and traveling. She was a member and officer of the DeLand Senior Women's Club and the DeLand Garden Club.

She founded the DeLand Girl Scout Troop, acting as leader for many years. She was active in the DeLand Christian Church and Piatt County Republican Women's Club. For more than 20 years, Helen Trenchard was Chairman of the Goose Creek Township Cancer Drive. The volunteers she recruited obtained the highest contributions per capita of any area in the country. During this time she served on many county and state Cancer Boards.

A world traveler, Mrs. Trenchard always considered Piatt County her home. She moved from DeLand to Tatman Village Retirement Home in Monticello in 1982. She moved to the Piatt County Nursing Home in 1990. She died there, at age 91, on Saturday, May 30, 1992 at 1:05 PM.
