damage estimated in millions By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS A furious outbreak of tornadoes slashed the heartlands of the United States late Wednesday killing more than 50 persons injuring hundreds and leaving a trail of damage estimated at millions of dollars The death toll today stood at 55 with 31 dead in Arkansas 11 in Iowa six in Illinois and one in Missouri Floods hampered the search for dead and injured and authorities feared the toll would run higher Underlined are communities in Arkansas Missouri Illinois and Iowa hit by tornadoes TO SPEED UP FOUR-LANER hours causing several injuries and considerable property damage southwest of Indianapolis Destruction wrought by a tornado is evident in downtown section of Oelwein a town in northeastern Iowa The twister caused considerable damage
