MGRAE, ESQ. JttyTRte indisposition of the editor for the last few days is the excuse he offers for all de ficiencies this week. The members of the Goldsboro' Female seated Prof.

J. isburg Female head Bitiona, and of opposite Tiws, lately declared in their places ou the floor of the American Senate, that ours is tile mlost corrupt government on the face of the earth These were, Toombs, of Georgia, Johnson, of Tennessee, and Hale, of New Hampstire. They have all three been in the public service years, and during the more corrupt racts of the Gover- inent, they have been jassociated with the party acting out its villainy. This corruption was inaugurated by Democracy, and asDe xnocracy becomes more despotic and corrupt, the Government under its control becomes tooreso. Corruption, in Congress, and.

in ihe departments at Washi igton, was unknown in tho days of Madison, Monroe, and John Quincy Adams. Lt commenced its march the reign of Jackso 3, but did not arrive at perfection until successor, Van Buren, Was inaugurated, when plunder, falsehood, and forgery' were organised into a regular system. Stealing, -under Van Buren, was declared to be a well digested article of the Democratic creed, and from that day to this, the party have been improving on tihe art The great sources of corruption are four the offices, the Pmmc Uaftaa, low Tariff, and the infamous Sub Treasury. The first are given to corrupt and incompetent men, who have aided in carrying their State elections by frauds, falsehoods, and bribery. The Public Lands are alone reserved as fund for purposes I selves, and thus bring oil a panic.

The Sub Treasury system affords opportunity for ah" over-issue of notes, for extensive stealing, and throws around the thieves the protection of the law, and at the same time enables them to conceal their acts. The most profligate Administration that ever existed, the most Openly and notorious thieving, is the a corrupt and lying old Federalist at its head from Pennsyl vania. Writers on political economy, in enumerating the civilised governments of the earth, have heretofore said "Unprinci pled Russia." The catalogue should hereafter run thus unprincipled and corrupt America. Fierce said he turned over to Buchanan nca thirty millions of a surplus- Buchanan has exhausted it all, and reports the Treasury bankrupt to the tune of FIFTY MILLIONS, and calls additonal loans of millions of Trea-sury notes. The year jju ending the 3d instL the expenses were run up to $83,313,909 W-And for the next year, the friends of the Administration concede that the expenditures will exceed ONE HUNDRED MILLIONS Will the people cet their eves open i Can they stand this Let tliem form a new party.

Let them join almost anj- party on earth-to put down this a worse and more thieving party, this National, Harmonious, Universal Demo cratic Tarty The Lynchburg Republican says "we harre whipped Mr. Doustasland his fnends. and "they now desire to come back to us and assume "their old party relations. Let them do so, say we. 1 The Republican has a novel idea of whip ping.

Judge Douglas retains hb seat in the Senate, holds his position as chairman of one of the eonimittees, has recanted notifing that he has said, and given no evidence of a desire to "coarc back to the administration. After having balked the President, he has silediced the clamor of the press, not by any compromise of his position, but by showing a strength in the North West that makes him master of the Democratic party. He has conquered his enemies by the display jet a power that they daro not provoke. If apj "whipping" has been done, those who tried to break the Judge down, and failed, have! had the benefit of it SThe New York Herald recommends Mr. Letcher as a candidate for the Presidency.

A present of any kind is always very acceptible to us, but just imagine a lean editor sitting in his sanctum, having just before him across the street, a Confectionary Store with its windows crammed with Lemons, Raisins, Nuts, TBo lean editor looked in hisocket-book, but alas I he finds that the last cent has already been spent. lie sighs at his destitute condition, hjjt no remedy presenbM. itseii 10 nis view, at inis period, some, one enters and hands him a box with "the' compliments of If the reader can imagine how this poor editor felt as he took hold of the box and saw it filled to the brim i i 1. t.m i i with all kinds of goodies, then they will know how we felt when the present Mr. Carlile sent reached us.

Should any of our friends want anvthins in the Confec "We believe that the present Administra tion has the true American pluck to compel a final adjustment of the long delayed difficulty. confadeDtly expect to see our Government take a firm and decided stand without the least possible delay. It is time that our relations with liUgland were satisfactorily adjusted and the right of visit thoroughly and completely abandoned." Evening Argus. Our neighbor is too innecent, by half.

Our present Administration has not a partible of "American pluck!" Kits Chief ever had any, it run out at the time that 'drop of De mocratic blood" was phlebotomized. He will not compel a final adjustment. After a little fustiaq, the whole thing will end in smoke, and England will still assert her insulting right to search our ships, and our pockets too, if she please and Old Buck dare not resent the indignity. If a Jackson were in the Presidential Chair, English gunboats would not insult our flag on our own coast. He would cot stop to ask for "extraordinary powers" before he redressed the outrage.

The enemies of the administation of James Buchanan must experience a chilling sense of discomfiture in the sudden, and favorable turn which our national affairs are assuming, chiefly it will be admitted, through the calm wisdom and experienced statesmanship of tho Baltimore Republican. We were aware that the temperature of the atmosphere had changed considerably since the rain of Monday last, but were not aware that the "calm wisdom" of the-Jupiter tonans of the White House was the cause of the "chilling" sensation. It ia said that the English are not dis posed to enter into the French Belly arrange-. ment, to secure the dominancy of those countries in Central America. It is feared that the big canal will cost a big pile of money, and it is doubtful if it will John Bull is afraid it might complicate matters, and he has wars enough on his hands at present, and can, afford to wait cm til matters are settled in China and India before he "puts ih" for Bellyfull of Central America.

The New Orleans papers state that a large side wheel British war steamer and a propeller are cruising around off the bar at the mouth of the Mississippi VTcfeburg Whig, They might come up the Potomac, and puff their smoke into- the windows of the White House if they chose.
